Why are HIV/AIDS conspiracy theories still popular

AIDS is just compromised immune system. There are other things that cause AIDS aside from HIV.

Maybe because it came out of nowhere and started piling up bodies left and right and scared the living sh*t out of everybody, plus it has a heavy homosexual angle... It preyed upon everybody's worst fears. maybe that's why

unless it's an HIV infection

there are no known causes of AIDS besides HIV
some "scientists" contest the link between HIV and AIDS
as far as I know no one is suggesting other causes of AIDS they're just claiming that HIV is not the cause

It comes with the territory. Where there's smoke there's fire. I'm not the biggest conspiracy theorist but I think there's something fishy about AIDS and HIV. Its not a common cold that's for sure.

Many cancers may also cause immunodeficiency.

immunodeficiency = a weakened immune system (caused by any number of things)
AIDS = a specific disease that destroys your immune system (caused by HIV)
