actually no Big L's line is way more clever

I must be missing sumthing..."got too many ho's ask beavis I get nuthing butt head":what:...u could do this punchline on a bunch of shyt for no reason..."I'm like the candy ask m I got nuthin but m's"
Why the hell would u ask m about m's:wtb:? I'm not gon tell a legend how to flip they lines but it coulda been flipped better....and he used it as the closeout line to his verse.

Meanwhile w/JAY "I keep one eye open like cbs,u see me stressed right?"...people who see him can visibly see he's stressed, they can see he paranoid by his demeanor....they look at Jay and say to themself "this nikka here keep one eye open like cbs:mjpls:"

Ok I don't think you can really compare the Big L line to Jay Z's

The songs are completely different thematically. Big L's verse had a humorous vibe to it. He was just talking shyt in that verse. You could picture him smirking while spitting it. I'd compare it to Gucci Mane (I'm going to get hate for bringing him up). "Eat rappers like Jeffrey Dahmer/ Dope color Sinead O'Connor." It has a playful weird goofiness to it. Not saying that's Big L's best punchline but it gets a pass because L doesn't take himself seriously.

Jay's song is a whole different beast. It's a serious song. To throw a reference in there to the little logo you see in the corner when you watch Letterman seems random and awkward and makes his whole persona seem kind of fake. It'd be like if Tupac made a punchline about Seinfeld or some shyt in the middle of Keep Your Head Up. :pachaha: It just makes you stop and think "who the fukk is this character? is he trying to paint a picture or is he just trying to spit off the wall metaphors?" At least thats how I feel when I hear it.

Wow. You really took that shyt and turned it into rocket science... how does that line make his whole persona seem fake? :heh: It's just a simile... I don't even think it was meant as a humorous punchline. Rappers used to use similes all the time, not necessarily for humor purposes or to get a "ZING!" off, it's just something people understand and know about said in a semi-slick way, as opposed to just saying "I gotta keep one eye open cause nikkas tryna kill me" or somethin' like that. It ain't that deep, bruh. It's really not.

It's not the best example just the first one I thought of when I made this thread. Pusha is a better example because he has entire verses of slick double entendre metaphor simile shyt. You listen to 16 bars and he's really telling you nothing. Other than "Im a genius and I'm good at selling coke". But he does it in a slick way and fans eat it up.
