Even in Cuba the sport is starting to decline in popularity. DR is probably the last real main stay. All the traditional Latino baseball countries; DR, Cuba, PR, Panama, Nicaragua. They've all seen a decline in baseball interest. Soccer and Basketball are starting to come in and replace it. Soccer contracts are nothing to scoff at either.

Baseball has some interesting economics. They dish out all this money, yet they lag in popularity compared to the NFL and NBA. I like baseball, but I don't know how much longer it can really keep up with the lavish spending. Fewer and fewer people overall are really getting into it.

yea its true. in DR baseball remains as popular as ever, but basketball has been getting more and more popular too. Baseball just isnt exciting enough for this generation used to instant gratification.

The best point he made is that there are Black players, but they aren't often that good now. I think about guys like Delroy Young, Lastings Milledge, Tim Beckham, etc, who had all the talent in the world but ended up busts and I wonder, not IF, but HOW MUCH were they sabotaged over the course of their development by random minor league hitting coaches or umpires or whoever who could get away with their prejudice at the lower levels without backlash. Nobody is gonna notice Ump calling a tighter strike zone or that the coaches are spending more time in the cages with that 19th round senior signee than their #1 overall pick when you're in Biloxi, Mississippi or wherever these backwood A/AA teams are. All they're gonna see is buddy only hit .225 and blame it all on him. That's not to say all these guys would be Bonds, but even a couple more Carl Crawford/Derrek Lee types floating around out there over the years would've made a tremendous difference

Feels like it's too much of a white space for young black men to deal with

Rather play basketball football with people on your wave length
