The thing that is VERY interesting is, black people aren't immune to mental illness. Black women have HIGH levels of depression just LOW levels of suicide.

All races are hit by mental illness but the question is why some are likely to commit suicide and others aren't. More than mental illness is at play, cultural and environmental issues come into who jumps off the ledge and who hangs on.....

I think this is where the double-edged sword comes in, as well as the complications of over-relying on religion. People believe strong = emotionally healthy. And they think that Jesus can fix serious mental health issues without using the medium of a counselor. Yes, you're strong, but you can be strong and fukked up and need counseling. Jesus may even want you to get counseling instead of waiting for him to magically heal your wounds.
