Why Americans suck at soccer (well, the men)

Black Americans are looking at the sports that will uplift us out of our current financial situation. As a black American you can see a direct path through football, basketball, baseball, and formerly boxing to either getting to college or making enough money to lift your family out of poverty. Although that is soccer's role in the rest of the world, over here that shyt ain't obtainable for us through soccer. Do they give college scholarships for soccer? They don't even have leagues in urban areas for the most part and if they do its very expensive and time consuming to participate in.

There's a TON of soccer scholarships AND their easier to get...the problem IS those urban leagues and the ability for kids to learn/play the game at an early age.

No. Because the majority of the top players are still American thus most of the talent is still American. It will still be deeper than any other nation. You're naming pretty much one player per team. While the US can name multiple names on the team. You can mention Karl Anthony Townes. But what else is on DR? You can name Embiid. But what else is on Cameroon?

I'm not arguing that other nations won't be more competitive. I'm arguing that you flat out said that nations will pass the US in the sport. It is as ridiculous as saying the US will pass Germany in soccer.

It's because the best talent doesn't progress upwards like in other countries.

There was a great Washington Post article on this a while back. Basically it shows that the most talented kids rarely get the chance to go through all of the various junior leagues that serve as feeders to the national team. Costs too much, all the traveling/camp fees/personal coaches etc are only accessible by upper class.

Solo, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was speaking at the Hashtag Sports conference in New York City. She said the sport in the U.S. is too expensive for Latino, African-American and rural kids to play -- adding that if she was a kid today her family wouldn’t be able to afford to help her advance in the game.

“We have alienated the Hispanic communities. We have alienated our black communities. We have alienated the underrepresented communities, even rural communities," Solo said, according to Sporting News. "So soccer in America right now is a rich white-kid sport.”

“Then we have to ask ourselves, ‘Well, no wonder why we are not qualifying for the World Cup, when we have alienated a huge population of really talented youth soccer players.’ And that’s the state of the game right now.”

And it doesn’t seem that US Soccer is serious about fixing this problem.

I think they should team up with MLS and every team have a funded youth Academy.

I know certain teams like FC Dallas do well with thier academies but it needs to be a more league wide thing.

This is why I could careless about the usmnt, ussf, and mls when they fail cause, its not that they don't know how to succeed in the sport its simply because they don't want to. They know damn well that if they eliminated the current system and expanded a wide net across the states for talented kids, a lot of wealthy white kids won't even see a pitch and they fear how diverse the usmnt would look. Its so bad that even white Europeans are mocking them for the exclusion of minority or less privileged kids. So until the ussf fixes this problem its fukk them and the usmnt for life.

They could easily get rid of the current pay to play model, but the last thing these fukking soccer moms and peaked-in-high school dads want to see is a team with a majority of black kids out performing their Maddoxs, Hunters, and Sheldons on every level.

Hell, i see how low key racist they get when they play the club team with majority Latino players on it...getting pissed that the parents are cheering on their kids in Spanish. These white folks WANT soccer to stay white.
