Why AEW's first match of 2020 is concerning; is Cody this generation's Jeff Jarrett?

Bit of a weird thing to complain about given he's made it so that he can't challenge for the title any time soon, despite being arguably the most over face they have at the moment.

Cody Is Barely Featured Maybe I’m Missing Something

I Expected Him To Be Way More In The Forefront Than He Has Been

Never mind Cody, Kenny’s fall off is terrible.

:aicmon:Breh...breh...I'm still baffled that this dude had people biting their nails and neckbeards doing the most during the rumors of him rolling with WWE, only to get the IWGP belt and take more time off than Lesnar:shaq2:. Once he got to shine on his own with his "clique" at AEW, breh....breh:dwillhuh:......this is like a weird paradox. Dude looks washed as all hell. This is not the same dude that damn near died at the Kingdom :mjcry:

Cody is getting way too much story, to the detriment of other faces. They are fukking up badly by giving one guy so much attention. He's not even supposed to vie for the title again, so why is he winning every match now?

What should have been a measuring stick for Darby, after a hard fought draw, somehow became a pissing contest for Cody. Genuinely don't see the point in adding Arn to give the latter a veteran coached win. Shouldn't that have been the young upstart's look?

Jobbed out Butcher and Blade in a week, after an introduction that was fukked up on inception, for a quick payoff that didn't even feel earned. They could have been heavy heat heel champs by now, but they're a joke.

Cody's sheer audacity to shyt on HHH, while doing the same run, is truly fukking RICH. He really is just full of himself, this is like watching him bogart Bullet Club shine all over again.

Bucks and Kenny losing enough to get fans mad, outside observers concerned, and they hand Star Trek entrances and WCW Redux to CODY?

We haven't really even dug into how untalented and truly annoying Brandi is, either. Around legendary talent for years, still looks green as goose shyt, let's put her "in charge" of Awesome Kong. Voodoo. Some bald guy.

They even have other wrestlers mentioning the joke projects, in an attempt to try and legitimize these already mocked acts.

Forcing shyt that didn't work is what turned people off of WWE, paving the exact same roads they did. All the while managing some Jeff Jarrett shyt all over again.

Cody Rhodes wrestling as a babyface, adds AA to manage him, all so he could go over someone who needed a good win. Even the Coffin Drop apron spot felt backwards.

The very first match of AEW this decade is not a good look for the company.

imagine being a heterosexual male and writing an essay on play fighting like this without any irony :mjlol:

I don’t even know what some of y’all complain about Cody so much. Cuz y’all be the same group that be complaining about “too much flippy shyt and hardcore shyt” which is the same shyt fans like me love to see and what to see more of.:lolbron:

Cody is one of the guys that actually does that “slow down” shyt so many claim to love and if he wasn’t there...... shyt would be “all flips, no kicks” which is fine for me but bad for y’all.:heh:

except OP wasn't talking about Cody moveset....at all....

Cody is the one guy out of him, Omega, & the Bucks that has been put in spots where he could have really helped put people over by losing. Bucks put people over & it doesn't lead to any kind of follow up for them so what good is it?

I don't give a fukk about Spears but him beating Cody would have given them a semi strong heel to come back & beat later, but Cody beat him & then he lost to Mox right after & any hope of making him a solid midcard heel went out the door. He could have lost to Darby last night & been fine since they could just yell about all the other shyt he's got to worry about right now but instead Darby lost another big match.

He’s one of the only guys who comes across as a star by booking and the most egregious thing I can criticize him for is being the only guy to get grandiose entrances :manny: the rest of the Elite should’ve been as mindful of their booking as he is

That's because he is not in NJPW anymore.

He was DIFFERENT over there. Japanese wrestlers generally have some derivative of the same Strong Style/Puro base. You have your flat out bruisers (Ishii, EVIL), your tech guys (Okada, Tanahashi), your energy (Naito/SANADA) and so on, but for the most part, they all kind of have the same base to them. Kenny was different. He looked different. He moved different compared to what you see. He was an anomaly over there, and his gaijin status helped him. Not to mention, NJPW has elite (no pun intended) talent over there to work with.

Not that much different as to how AJ Styles became best in the world in NJPW, but stateside people on this board say he's washed/falling off like he's still not the best all-around guy WWE has outside of MAYBE Cesaro.

Over here, Kenny's not that different. PAC can do all the shyt Kenny was doing just as explosively if not more than. Buddy Murphy is basically Great Value Kenny and is churning out good work in a organization that doesn't even VALUE good in-ring work that much.

@Straw Hat Luffy made a good point about him having lost his heat. He isn't getting it back until he starts mowing down any and all comers like he was when he first became a heavyweight.

I actually thought the opposite. I thought the Young Bucks, Omega and Cody were looking like chumps constantly putting the other guys over. Besides Lucha Bros, the Young Bucks are the best tag team in the company. Same with Omega. It's clear he's the best (maybe Pac) singles wrestler, but he's put over Moxley & Jericho instead. Now he's trying to team with Hangman, which is also weird.

Dude was out there every week talking about the company being out to get him when he was the owner :mjlol:

Those early TNA shows with him clearly trying to position himself as their Stone Cold are hilariously atrocious.

Cody's nowhere near as bad. At best, this sets up a long term story with him helping Darby Allin win the title or something. Worst case scenario, it leads to heel turn so that they have more than one effective heel. :yeshrug:

I feel truly jaded as an NJPW fan, I guess.

The three star general still doesn't impress me, his matches are still mediocre, and he can't tell a story unless it's inadvertently beat out of him.
Never mind Cody, Kenny’s fall off is terrible.
Before Kenny went on to win the G1, he looked like he could give a fukk less, and regularly sprayed aerosol down his pants.

Then he went on a run that changed history.

There's a reason they did the "he could have won by countout" against Tana.

He's been busy with a brand and rightfully just taking a damn break. The match with PAC showed he never lost it.

Jericho doesn't seem like a threat without undercutting him for the AEW title. But I digress...
