If we're talking about the most iconic, it's Heathcliff Huxtable, easily. However you feel about Cosby now, he had crossover appeal beyond the black community. Uncle Phil had crossover appeal as well, but Cosby did it first. :kanyebp:

Uncle Phil is a very close second. Especially after this moment :to::

Dr. Huxtable. It's not even close.

Divided by decades: James Evans 70s, Dr Huxtable 80s, Phil Banks 90s upper class division, Carl Winslow 90s working class division.

Mac Robinson from Night Court needs more love. He was the only sane man on that show, didn't create drama, treated Quan Li with respect instead of as a sex toy or project, and was fiercely proud and protective of both his wife and his little Blasian daughter.

Benjamin Sisko also needs love. He ran a port, fought a war, found time for romance, became a God and still raised his boy right. He re-introduced the concept of three generations of black excellence in one show, by showcasing his Creole cooking father back on Earth (Cosby did it first, another point to Dr. Huxtable). And he was the star, not the sidekick or side player like most of the men on this list.

Uncle Phil hands down.

1. Successful judge
2. Kids were all successful
3. Raised his wife's nephew as his own and showed him a better life
4. Married a strong black woman (original Aunt Viv)
5. Constantly tried to keep Ashley from being a thot and was successful
6. Never forgot where he came from (Will and Carlton pulled over episode explains it all)

So much Black Excellence :ohlawd:

RIP Uncle Phil :mjcry:

Uncle Phil is my favorite, but, I gotta put some repeck on James Evan's name. He's the O.G., the godfather.
James was ride or die for his family. He was just a man from hard breaks in life but I admired his character.

That time he offered a fade to that banker that tried to boycott the payment for J.J.'s mural.:wow:

That nikka didn't want that smoke.

Phil, easily.

He's the definition of black excellence:

Is a powerful judge.
Never forgot his roots
Works the system
Calls Will and everyone else out on their bullshyt constantly
His kids, while spoiled, are successful AF.

Is a hustler (Billiards episode) :banderas:

actually phillip was trying to distance himself from being zeke from cabin creek when his folks was telling will about his upbringing. Then he got his sense back and embraced it

300 murders a year
def a great debate

uncle phil was great, uncle phil, as well as bill cosby was all about raise your kids til they 18, then get them the fukk outta there. uncle phil was a bit more hands on as a parent tho. to be honest heathcliff left the parenting to clair, outside a few of his long ass stories. clair ran that house tho.

frank mitchell was a typical father who had a fine ass daughter. strict and the children wont appreciate that til they grown. but, for all his discipline he didnt take enough time to teach his kids. it was more do as i say or get out for him too. it was shameful to ship dorian to the boot camp. not when you lied to him his whole life.

george jefferson provided well for lionel but lionel was more socially aware and george jefferson was soft shoe c00ning unless his back was against the wall.cant be persuading your kids to kiss ass.

michael kyle was a great father as well. he would have been my choice if this man didnt exist

the answer is james evans. bust his ass to take care of his family, protected his family at all cost, stood tall to an entire gang to protect his boys, stayed true to his woman and although he was stubborn as most prideful men are, listened when he realized she was right, made his daughter feel like a queen and was a great example for her for what a man was, but the biggest reason i say he is the best father, was unlike all the other fathers, who at times had their children looking lost on what to do with their lives after high school, james evans set his children up for the future and pushed them to choose careers early on. he was grooming michael to be a lawyer from youth, he pushed thelma to be a nurse from the jump, he saw j.j had a gift in painting and persuaded and helped him hone his skills. so when they get out of high school, they had skills to go to. that is the true definition of a father. i do the same with my kids.

i'd add an honorable mention for roc, that man fought hard to keep the ills of the inner city from usurping his family and community, he was hilarious, he was also a very strong character amidst realistic circumstances.
