I don't even know why this is a controversial thing. People are seemingly using "best"/"better" and "champions" interchangeably, which I'd guess is were the confusion comes from

Who claimed that Team USA was unbeatable, especially this version of the team? I don’t think anyone who’s actually watched those two teams play came in thinking Germany didn’t have a good chance at winning.

As a matter of fact, the entire tournament system is also invalid. Cause a team that lost in the first round hypothetically can beat the champions since they didn’t play each other to know what would have happened.
Germany never beat the Dominic Republic. How can we know if they are really the potential Fiba champs if they didn’t play them?
