Whoa.....so 5 MILLION people watching a show is not enough to keep it on-air?

It's the same as when news corporations do polls. The people with boxes represent a sample size
Thats what I dont get, if no one I know or have ever met has one of those ratings boxes, how is this still being used to determine ratings.. Like if I had or knew how to get a box, I would buy cable and watch shows live, but since I dont count whats the point?

Oh it's flawed I'm not saying it's perfect but polling is flawed too in that sense. Essentially it takes people by groups: age, income, race, zip code, etc and get people who represent those groups and give them boxes. So that even if you don't have a box, whatever "group" you fit in is represented. But you DO count in the "millions" of people who watched. For instance, when the super bowl numbers come in, obviously all of those millions of people don't have boxes but they don't count in the ratings system, those are the people who have boxes

The Crazy Ones got penalized for not holding enough of the ratings from The Big Bang Theory and for not being a cheaper to produce multi-camera comedy like the rest of the CBS line-up.
I liked the show and the cast had developed a nice chemistry by midseason.

Word. Which is why a show on CW or TBS can keep going with ratings not even half as good because there's a different threshold

The Big Bang Theory was one of it's lead-ins, and that show gets 20 million viewers a week. Five million is terrible for CBS.

Yeah different networks have different standards. If Parks and Rec was on CBS it would've been cancelled already. Community wouldn't have made it as long as it did either and 30 Rock may have been toast after season 2.

And you're right if one show is getting 20 million and the other can't even maintain half of that audience, that's a problem

Basically that too. And I explain to a few of my friends on the reg that you can't be mad at networks for canceling shows you like when you'd rather stream them, download them illegally, or just watch whatever comes on netflix since you're above owning a TV:yeshrug:

:guilty:

Shows I download I can't watch when they air anyway. My schedule is all fukked up...

That's a different reasoning than "Oh I refuse to pay for cable" or "I don't like commercials so I'll just wait" but still, all of it has a cumulative effect on the shows that continue and the shows that are canceled. DVR does come into play but only to a certain point. I think it counts up to a week of the show's original airdate

I seriously don't understand how BBT is still going strong. It's like 25% as good, as funny as the first season and it has higher ratings than ever?? And early BBT was 7/10 at most. Something you turned off your brain to watch and laugh at stupidity like 2.5 Men.

fukk Ferguson or Iraq, this type of thing is why I have no hope for society :banderas:

Because the show has characters people like or at least like watching and that's the key to any sitcom or drama succeeding. It starts with the characters and if people like them, then you're solid. And it's an easy show to get into if you're just tuning in. The problem with most single cam shows, coming from someone who loves them, is that it's not always easy to relate to the characters or their flaws aren't magnified as much as multicam due to the fact that nothing can linger. For instance, if a pie drops on the head of a character in a single cam, it's a quick shot, someone will make a joke and then it's on to the next; characters are allowed to keep their dignity. But on a multicam, it sits because the audience is there and they're reacting to it and you try to hold that shot as long as the audience is reacting to it. Think of many of Al Bundy's many embarrassments on Married With Children..the camera sits there and just lets him sit in the muck for what feels like forever but most single cam shows don't do that because everything moves quick, with The Office being an exception to that.

People not only want to like the characters but also identify with them in some way or relate and while I love a show like Happy Endings, I think more people relate or like watching the characters from Big Bang Theory than they do the ones on Happy Endings

Yea, CBS is the WOAT of all the networks.

Only show that gets a pass is Two and a Half Men with Sheen.
:scust: I used to watch that show, but I threw it in the Bushes when I got into "The Big Bang Theory" & realized it was a better show. I threw TBBT into bushes when I got into "How I Met Your Mother" and realized it was a WAY BETTER show than TBBT.
