Whoa.....so 5 MILLION people watching a show is not enough to keep it on-air?

I dont pay much attention to ratings, but 5 million viewers is bad?

I was just reading about that last show Robin Williams was on, The Crazy Ones and I saw:

During the season, the show's ratings fell, with its season finale garnering only 5.23 million viewers. [37] On May 10, 2014, CBS announced it had cancelled The Crazy Ones. [38]

I never saw the show, don't know if it was any good, but has TV really made that big of a comeback to where 5 million ppl can referred to as "only" and enough to cancel a series?

It's not about the millions watching as much as it's the ratings . So while it's last episode had 5.23 million viewers, it only did a 1.3 that means 1.3% of adults in the 18-49 demo watched it which isn't that great for a comedy on CBS which is pretty expensive to produce. A 1.0 rating equates to 1.1975 Million in the money demo so an extra .3% isn't that much more

So while the 5.23 million is overall viewers of all ages, the 1.3 represents the number execs and advertisers look at. The amount of people watching in the money demo has to justify the amount it cost to produce the show and if it doesn't, shows either get the ax or get retooled to be cheaper

Because you idiots that age download it or watch it later :skip:
Welcome to the DD era :skip:

Basically that too. And I explain to a few of my friends on the reg that you can't be mad at networks for canceling shows you like when you'd rather stream them, download them illegally, or just watch whatever comes on netflix since you're above owning a TV:yeshrug:

I never knew about that show. I was just going by the regular big name shows.

Ah I feel you. That was the example @jadillac used. It was the show Robin Williams was on. I was watching 2 Broke girls because Kat Dennings is :killadamn: but it's too stupid. She's bad as fukk but even that has its limits

5 million is extremely bad for Network tv. Power got 5 million for their finale and Starz is a premium channel. Game of Thrones gets about 20 million and HBO is also premium.

For comparison sake, according to wiki, the pilot of Big Bang Theory had 9 million viewers and the season 1 finale over 7 and a half.

They were lucky they got a full season out of 5 million viewers
