Who started the taper with braids?

Was it a city because I don’t think it was a rapper or celebrity they riding the wave

I’d say the reemergence started with nikkas down south. They started getting those egregious 5 inch tapers n shyt with their locs, think Gunplay and Jalen Hurts

The first time I saw the taper/cornrow was with Genuwine circa ~2001:

The tapered fro’s got popular in the mid 2010s so of course those afro’s would naturally progress to braids and dreads with tapers.
As for who started it. I guess OBJ? He made the nappy fro popular again but I don’t recall him ever having braids.

I remember when my barber just randomly did it for me when my dreads started to fall back in 2010.
At first I was like aw man, he's gonna cut my hair off

Then when he finished I was like


The taper with the braids/dreads is a good look. I just don't rate that high top dread look a lot of brehs abused when Black panther came out lol.
