When there are cities with so much lower cost of living, better weather, and plenty to do to keep you occupied, you realize moving to NYC isn't all it's cracked up to be. I mean yeah there's MORE to do in NYC than in Dallas.. there are MORE people in NYC than in Dallas.. but come on you ever gonna need 8 million people in your life? You ever gonna go to every bar, every restaurant, every lounge, every fun thing to do? Nah you'll be plenty occupied in other cheaper cities

I was just there the last 2 weekends and it made me realize how much I fukkin miss it, my fam and peoples. I've made a decent life in Philly the last 9 years, made really great friends, but I just might have to make that move back. That's my hometown :to:

The high cost of living is the only flaw of this city :jawalrus:

And maybe no nice parks in black neighborhoods :ehh:

Unless Prospect Park is nice but based on the stories I hear about that park.... :birdman:

Having to walk though some of these neighborhoods to get to the Hudson River Park :beli:

This winter I'm gonna try out Prospect Park since its closer to Flatbush (:myman:) maybe its more down to earth there and I wouldn't seem so out of place.

It's actually a really nice park. I was there a few weeks ago reading and smoking a joint. Nice family park

Ask yourselves why the cost of living is so high.

It's a basic economic principle. :youngsabo:

High demand and not enough supply?

But, still, some of those prices......:rudy:

Just don't make any damn sense!!!

Compared to places like LA, San Diego, Dallas, Miami, etc i just dont see why anyone would have NY on their top 10 list to live unless they have family their or something

Those areas are too damn expensive too.

Well, save for Dallas.

Yes, we all know the rent is high here, as it is in several other places.
Yes, we all know the place is overhyped from movies and TV, etc.

But still having the whole world represented in one space :ahh:

NY
i do breh. i can get "lost" in the city. night life is unmatched for the most part and so much more to do than in fukking pittsburgh

True
I love the convenience(everything is right there, it's easy to get around in just about 4 of the 5 boros, things stay open late) and an abundance of things to do.

I live in a decent spot, so living in a closet is no issue. It's just that I don't like living in a place w/ cold or humid weather and this place is filthy. Outside of that, NY is pretty great. If you make 80+k; you don't mind humid summers and cold winters, living in a condensed space is no problem to you, and you want a vibrant and convenient city, then NY is perfect for you. If not, then look somewhere else.

As a young black man, I can honestly say New York is the ultimate city. IN THE WORLD.

Only places Ive been that matches that flair is London and ATL

New York City is unparalelled. I never plan on leaving. I will be a shriveled up yet hip old lady banging my cane against the wall of my apartment signaling for the yuppies next door to keep the noise down.

-The nightlife is fantastic. Clubs/bars lounges stay open until 4am, (some 6am). The ability to club/bar/lounge 'Hop' is a fave of mine.
-The convenience and reliability of the mta/the ability to travel about the city effortlessly and efficiently without a vehicle.
-The many cultural enclaves, nooks, and hidden gems in the city:restaurants, cool/hip cafe's, comedy clubs, live music venues, museums, galleries
-The diversity of the people residing here. People from all walks of life, races, ethnicities, lifestyles, outlooks. There is something here for EVERYONE.
-The compact-ness of it all. Things are in walking distance. I need this. I need to be able to make a late night run to the store down the block for x,y, and z. I need to be able to come home from an event at 3am and feel as if it is 5pm rush hour on the subway.
-The hustle abnd bustle mentality.
-The style and fashion
-Parks and other scenic areas for some semblance of nature
-Neighborhoods boasting world-class architecture
-Shopping

Also, you do NOT need to be a millionaire to live in NYC. That is a fallacy. But yes. The rent is high compared to other places and you get a crappy amount of space for the price you pay. But its freaking NYC, you are paying for all of the above stated. You'll only be home to sleep, shower, and s**t anyway.

ATL
I grew up in Brooklyn, went to college in ATL and ended up staying. The ONLY reason I hve not come back yet is the high rent/cost of property. I could give a damm about the cold weather. When its so hot and you start sweating by just walking outside that aint no better.

I read an article recently that the AVERAGE rent in Manhattan is over $3400. Thats twice what I pay for mortgage on a 4200 sq ft house.

But trust me I'm seriously thinking about walking away from this and renting a shoebox back home.
