Thing is as much as people want to talk about the game being fake, the cream rises to the top, so it's impossible to choose just one. For the most part you're not going to get to a certain level of respect and marketability in the game as a street rapper without having music that sets you apart, and they set themselves apart with lines/songs that can only come from running around in the streets and being around legit street dudes. There's a couple exceptions, but they prove the rule. I would say when it comes to good street music, the game actually isn't as fake as people say it is.
There's a difference between someone rapping punchlines about guns or making cartoon songs about cooking crack and a Reasonable Doubt/early Jeezy level of insight that makes your work classic. There's exceptions, but damn near any classic street project you hear is probably from a person who's been in the streets.
Plenty of rappers have street reputations; plenty are still in the streets somewhat. Even with Mac, the rest of the Chain Gang are all street dudes, with exception of Chris & Neef being too young to be that deep...and of course most of Philly rappers.
