Everybody I could think of has been mentioned but the main ones for me are:

ATCQ - only liked a few singles, never listened to a whole album by them

36 mafia - only liked a few singles, never listened to a whole album by them either.

Outkast - tried to listen to a whole album, couldn’t do it. but they definitely have classic songs that I like.

Love Tribe...I'd suggest to give Low End Theory and Midnight Marauders a full listen.

Been saying this for years. It was everything before & everything after moment in hip-hop. Off top, only Tribe's stuff from pre-Chronic sounds like it could've been released post-Chronic. About everyone else's stuff sounds dated af
Whether you love 90s music or not most of it still sounds extremely dated at this point.
Listen to Metro Boomin new album and then throw on some Gangstarr or Smif n Wessun and it’s pretty obvious which is which.

Of course...there's a damn near 30 year time span difference. For releasing in 90 & 91, those two Tribe albums in particular sound like they could've been released in the mid-90s.

I'm not sure what type of music you enjoy, but I get where you're coming from. This is how I feel when someone tries to get me to listen to classics from the 80s, or just about any album before 92/93...it sounds old af, the flows are elementary af, etc.

Also, A LOT changed in 1995...compare Dah Shinin' which dropped in early-95 to something like OB4CL which dropped in August '95. OB4CL sounds lightyears ahead of Dah Shinin' which still had 'yell rap' hook vibes.

Grew up in the 90s and love that music but also hold Migos, JID, Anderson Paak and a lot of other newer stuff in high regard.
It’s hard to judge an album you’ve heard a million times objectively but when I listen to a 90s album I missed at the time with fresh ears it’s a chore. Never listened to Jeru the Damaja, Organized Konfusion or Pete Rock and CL Smooth albums when they came out and shyt sounds downright medieval to me now despite loving a lot of music from that era…

Snoop or Eminem. While I enjoy Snoop’s music, he never made a song that touched me in A heartfelt manner. Eminem has invoked emotion in his songs, but I can’t relate. His music was entertaining when I was young, but I’ve matured since then.

Yea imma have to agree with the brehs saying Cole, I never got the hoopla when I listened to him,he not trash but he damn sure ain't as good as the dudes who was rapping in the late 90s to early 2000s....and he boring as hell in terms of Mic presence.

Another nicca I see championed on here that I liked was Freddie Gibbs,I tried to listen to see what cats what talking about but dude music is mid to me.

The 90s are dated, but you can throw on a popular 90s hip hop song and Gen Z will fukk with it. If you try to throw on a rap song from the 80s most people will

Eminem.

I’ll never take him seriously. Not because he’s white but because when he came out, I thought it was a joke. That My Name is came out during the Tom Green rapping, I permanently put him in the trash as I felt he was mocking the culture and he’s been there ever since.

Damn shame because I liked Infinite. :manny:

I love Redman, top 20 MC but certainly not a lot of substance there. I think for me he fits the criteria perfectly.
‘All he needs’ … is a Mary J Blige chorus I guess, otherwise Method Man would be there too :russ:

So far among the listed

I am ranking them as

1. E-40
2. Redman
