if we take it by gross

it's still the same people

leo
outside of titanic which was a success in spite of him when has leo ever been a boxffice titan?
will smith
Is he tho? he barely does movies anymore and his last 2 flicks which were big budget actioners underperformed.
johnny depp
same deal as RDJ and lawerence outside of the machine they come back down to earth
tom cruise
If he was the biggest star in hollywood they wouldnt have treated edge of tomorrow that way

Is this about the biggest actor in hollywood or the richest :why:

I'm just gonna throw in Denzel Washington, his movies don't do Will Smith numbers but his numbers are consistent and... he's hitting 60, rarely works with high profile directors (Scorcese, Fincher, etc.), and has never done a big budget franchise.. unlike most of the big actors today. His name pretty much sells his movies... He's a movie star in the true sense of it... In the same way guys like Clint Eastwood and John Wayne were except he has Brando's great acting skills.

we talking now right??? this article is 2010... y'all forget international numbers which blow domestic out of the water... and dvd's..... top 2 both had films grossing over 1 billion dollars homie..

Quite predictably, blockbuster king Leonardo DiCaprio tops this year’s list — which is purely based on box office intake, and does not count animated films — with $1.1 billion, thanks to turns in the highly successful Shutter Island and Inception. But the list’s No. 2 finisher is the most shocking: 21-year-old up-and-coming Aussie actress Mia Wasikowska. Of course, the reason for her $1.0 billion gross over the year is mostly due to the list’s No. 3 finisher — Johnny Depp, who served as the main draw for Wasikowska’s summer film, Alice in Wonderland — and critical darling The Kids Are All Right, but it’s an impressive distinction to hold, considering most Americans don’t even know her name. (Not to mention how to spell it.)

his movies regularly gross over 125 mil worldwide... so no... he's not top anything.. but his legend cannot be argued.. to this day, you could sell a movie on the fact that "it's the new denzel movie" and say nothing else, and people are already interested

Leonardo DiCaprio is the only actor right now that can sell a movie simply by being in it. No one else.

dont know why u are trying to be a smartass, we all know how american consider themselves exceptional. When they label a movie a flop 9 out of 10 times they are talking domestically not internationally or worlwide. To now answer the question taking account of a movie which did mediocre in the states but respectable worldwide, just changes the conversation.

Whats the gauge now? what are considering a flop worldwide-wise

I was all chill.. but both times you tried to shut me down on some :mindblown: like i was talking crazy talk

the ONLY reason tom cruise is still getting big money and getting blockbusters, is because he is an INTERNATIONAL star... hollywood (nor any company) does not operate on what you do in america. they could give to fukks if you bomb in america, as long as you made that money back somewhere

when they label a movie a flop... they are NOT talking domestic.. at all. matter of fact, when they talk about avengers earning a billion dollars, they aren't even talking domestic. studios NEVER give domestic only number... EVER... in life

the ONLY time domestic is counted by itself is during the ads... when they say "the number 1 movie IN THE COUNTRY" that's it. every other time you've ever heard the actual numbers from a movie, they are talking worldwide... again.. why would they leave out the other 280 some countries in the world and not report on that money

as for a flop.... a flop is even with worldwide take.... you still don't make any profits... and because i was such a dikk... i'll post the worst ever... :salute:

You're all over this thread... and you don't even really know WTF you're talking about... nor do you have very good reading comprehension...

I didn't say he was the biggest actor in the world.. I simply threw his name out there (I CLEARLY stated he doesn't do Will Smith numbers in my previous post). People watch his movies because his name is on them... his last 2 or 3 movies (outside of Flight) have been mediocre actoin movies but they were hugely successful... Again, he hasn't worked worked with top caliber directors, hasn't done a huge franchise, and he's hitting 60, yet.. he still manages to put out block busters, even in times when movies generally flop.

Name another actor his age... that is putting movies out in LEAD roles with top billing (I'll wait...). Almost every other actor that made the top 10 highest paid actor list was in a franchise or has worked with top tier director... he made the list and had non of that. The only other actor I can think of is Liam Neeson., who is also a stage and oscar caliber actor...
