Theyre dope

There are other companies you can use to help you with the process but you will have to pay them. DAV is free
I’m at the DAV now. I have to fill out paperwork first before filing with them.

I was at the VA hospital earlier. The VSO at that location didn’t seem to know his shyt. I’m trying to file a disability claim.

I got diagnosed with PTSD, depression, degenerative back, and sleep apnea. I need to figure out how to add insomnia.

Any brothers have advice for me? I’ll be combing through this thread and Reddit tonight.

@General Mills you got me?

It’s the VSO’s job to link these things. It’s your job to advocate for treatment. Talk to your doctor take the meds and Talk to your VSO.

You could make the claim yourself but if you’re using a VSO use them.

Do the DAV paperwork. Imo, best thing I could’ve done was go through them

The dude I had knew his shyt. Like seriously, no fluff and no BS.

But I did have a DAV before that who was poor service.. but that was only towards me and he didn’t seem to understand my situations for communicating with him in his time frames wasn’t going to work.

Outside of that, he was squared away

I’ve used paid services before to get the lower ratings..

Theyre solid too, but they will keep hounding you for the same shyt you sent them.

Also be warned, some want a percentage paid to them after your awards as well. Some people don’t care and I didn’t at one point, but eventually they became too annoying, sending automated messages requesting shyt I already gave them weeks ago, etc.

Too much of a hassle imo and you still paying for the service after the award is given.

Like for example, the paid service I used before, I stopped using years ago. Like the last correspondence was 2 years ago.. last time I contacted them with information because they kept spamming me for the same shyt by different people.

I went through DAV, got it bumped, got the backpay (not all of course :beli: ) but then I get an email for a bill of like 8k from the paid service.

I said fukk that and hit them up immediately. I even had my DAV write up a statement for it. They said they cleared it up but I’m still not %100 sure it won’t happen again

From research on reddit insominia most likely will get combined with the ptsd/depression rating since its mental health related. Great resource, gave me the confidence to file my own claim, no VSO. Best wishes on your search

Thats another way to go

One thing I want to say about DAV is that they pretty much did everything. They looked at my records, saw EVERYTHING that I could increase even with shyt still pending from like 2-3 years ago (I think. I know I’m somehow still awaiting a decision on some things) and he just set all the appointments up. The VA called to schedule best times/dates and I just showed up.

Simplest process I’ve ever been through and MY turnaround was quick… like 4 months quick.

Some vets get 12 extra months of college benefits under new VA rules

check this out !

Veterans who served two or more separate periods of military service will be eligible for up to 12 months of additional education benefits under new plans unveiled by Veterans Affairs leaders on Friday.

The announcement, made by VA Secretary Denis McDonough during remarks at the Student Veterans of America national convention in Colorado, comes in the wake of a Supreme Court ruling last April which found the department unfairly limited access to college tuition benefits in certain cases.

I filed my intent to file on dec 30th. Downloaded all my medical records. I had some stuff on there I didn’t know I had.
:ehh:
I think I’m going with a paid service. I was thinking of filing myself but I don’t want to mess up and miss out on money. I want the largest amount possible the first time then I can file to add more later.
That price is causing hesitation though. I can use that money on my rental. Last month my shed burnt down. I got 6700 from insurance but I’ve spent 13k total on the shed. Them 6 racks can get me even.
:francis:
I’m going to sleep on it but I think I’m going the paid route. My pops used them for his claim and he was satisfied.
:patrice:
I’ll keep the Coli updated on my progress and hopefully I see an award letter by June with that fat back pay check.
:jawalrus:
I appreciate yall motivating me. I’m going to miss the Coli come November.
