I think Voltron isn’t getting enough love. I don’t think we get Power Rangers without Voltron. And in terms of DBZ, me and most of my friends were aging out of Power Rangers when DBZ took over the game.

I guess Evangelion isn't popping here

Good suggestion. I wouldn’t put Shinji up there with Goku or Sailor Moon, but if we’re taking mech anime, he’s right there with Char Aznable. I want to say that Keith (Voltron) and Roy Focker should be there as well, but Koji Kabuto (Mazinger Z) deserves a mention as well.

For a villain Mt Rushmore, I nominate…
Frieza
Dio Brando
Char Aznable
Tetsuo (Akira)

Light is up there, but Death Note lowkey started falling off after…
They killed L.

the thing about Voltron (and Macross/Robotech) when it comes to American audiences, we didn't know it was "anime". Its honestly why you never see them (or Gigantor, or Mazinger Z/Tranzor Z on many lists, "pioneer" or otherwise.

1.mention of pokemon.. sheesh

People ignore it (and no I was NEVER a fan), but Pokemon damn near kicked the door in as far as showing studios how financially viable japanese imports were.

I honestly don't think any studio/network would've taken a bigger chance on anime if it wasn't for Pokemon becoming bigger than any kids show/game at the time.

As far as America goes

Speed Racer
DBZ
POKEMON
SAILOR MOON

Only because sailor moon got airplay in America years before Naruto and was hugely popular

I'd argue that Sailor Moon was nowhere near as popular as peak Naruto. But it was more important because it was the start of the female anime audience.

Yu-Gi-Oh was actually bigger than both of them. That's probably the real 4th tbh.

I dunno... Naruto ran North America for a hot minute, but it didn't put a whole genre on the map the way Sailor Moon, DBZ, or Gundam did.

If we're doing a Shonen Jump Rushmore, then Naruto is DEFINITELY a lock alongside Goku and Luffy, and MAYBE Ichigo.
I could see an argument for Kenshiro (Fist of the North Star), Sakuragi (Slam Dunk), Tanjiro (Demon Slayer), or Jotaro Kujo (Jojo's Bizarre Adventure) replacing Ichigo.

I'm embarrassed that I forgot my boy Crayon Shin-Chan*. He's on my "Personal Mount Rushmore".

*
Over 900 episodes

Over 25 movies

Over 35 languages

and that's in 2017, he's had more since then. I got 1-2 of the movies on the PLEX right now.

Here's a list from WatchMojo in 2017 showing anime that are way more popular in Japan than elsewhere:

#1 on the list is MEGA popular too. I wouldn't put it on my personal Mt. Rushmore, but I wouldn't hate on anyone who did.
