I disagree with this. When the Knicks acquired DSJ from the Porzingis deal they knew early on that he wasn’t going to work as he got benched and booed out of the city within weeks.

The Knicks signed Elfrid Payton because they gave up on Frank Nitkilina already. When the Knicks signed Payton he was suppose to be the stop gap Point guard until we could find someone better which I believe that’s why his deal was a 1 + 1 deal.

The Knicks had no belief in any of these point guards.
and you think the Knicks had faith in Randle after his first year? Of course not. They had buyer's remorse. That's why they drafted Obi. They just let themselves get lured back in after Randle's 2nd year.

Everyone knew neither of those PG’s were long term solutions, especially rose. We all knew frank and payton were trash. DSJ, I’m sure some fans held hopes for him, but overall was never good enough even in Dallas to think he could be a long term solution.

Haliburton was the smart and right pick. If we would of developed him into the player he is today, who knows. That’s a debate for another day. Great players flourish regardless of environment. Like IQ and Mitch
I'm going to imply that you don't think Obi is great or can be great. That's fine. Then why is he still here?

re-upped Mitch, signed Hartenstein, Randle making $30 mil a year, Sims on the roster, and to Randle's credit, he doesn't miss many games and plays a ton when he's out there. If Obi were to ever develop, it would be impossible to do it under those circumstances and he's gonna turn 25 next summer. Dangling him as an upside piece to a team was never realistic. You have to find a team who wants to win now and thinks Obi is a great player who just can't find minutes even though by your logic, he shoulda carved out a bigger role by now.

Again I disagree here. They drafted Obi because they really really believed in RJ Barrett more than anybody else. The organization had a belief that RJ Barrett was going to be a playmaking 2 guard like harden and that Obi would be perfect for him. People are making it look like it was Randle season that made them get Obi, It was just their belief that Barrett could handle both the scoring and playmaking to be a star.

By the way there’s nothing wrong with the belief in RJ because it’s still a possibility that this can happen.

Even if RJ were to magically gain these powers, he can't maximize those powers with a guy who has to find 15-17 minutes a night somewhere and can only rely on Randle being ineffective to get much more than this. If Obi was PERFECT for him, accommodate that.

Regardless of how you feel about Obi, the FO drafted Obi because they had buyers remorse with Randle. Randle sucked his first year here, we all hated the move and the Knicks were gonna move up to draft Obi if they had too. Obi was the logical move. Nobody expected Randle to show the fukk out the year after and anybody who says so is a liar. It's easy to paint different narratives in hindsight, but Obi was the logical move, and circumstances changed afterwards due to the unexpected. It is what it is.

Randle played so bad for us up until the Bubble season is the EXACT reason Obi was drafted. Randle was never looked at as a long term sign till he had that good season in the Bubble & management dropped the ball & extended him

Randle didn’t start playing well for us until that that preseason game and the Knicks stomped the dog shyt out of cleveland

It was IQ’s first game showing out and no one expected him to do anything, he got the ball moving and made his shots.

Obi was actually being pushed heavy but he just wasn’t as good as he is now.

I guess he saw the writing on the wall like oh these nikkas don’t actually need me and actually started playing team ball

I watched every preseason and regular season game that year and even in interviews he would say I started trusting my teammates more.

(Made me an IQ fan)
