I did not see that…

But idk why I’m defending why we thought SGA could become available. Y’all did the same shyt calling is dumb when we mentioned Mitchell as a possible target just last winter. This league is fickle as hell. Everyone not named Giannis or Jokic is a possible potential target at one point or another. (Notice i didn’t even mention luka cause they’re another playoff exit or 2 away from him starting to get antsy in Dallas.)
It's from this Athletic piece: https://theathletic.com/3778687/2022/11/10/nba-executives-poll-tanking-trade-talk/?source=nbatw

A couple of quotes from it, but bare in mind, the Thunder started winning some games after this was written up...

"The rumblings about Shai Gilgeous-Alexander possibly being on the move won't be going away anytime soon."

"You keep hearing that Shai is frustrated with the losing, and so I think that's the Toronto thing that we've all heard about with their interest in Shai this summer," font-office executive No. 4 said. "But how far do (the Thunder) want to push this (tanking effort)."

The rumored final package was like RJ, Grimes or IQ, and three picks. I would've did that shyt all day, and its not too much considering any team would laugh at that offer now.

Also I think we're hyping Grimes up too much too. He'll be a good role player but this summer was his "sell high" moment, and we missed it.
Keeping Grimes wasn’t about him being a potential superstar, but about him being a 3 and D wing on a team devoid of them. Like, he’s the only one we have on the roster still. (Cams shooting could get there).

I dont remember anybody saying it was dumb to think the Knicks had a chance to get Mitchell. People were just calling your trade proposals to get him dumb lol

Shai being unhappy isnt the same as OKC taking phone calls for him though

That’s true, but the quotes are from an executive and less than a week old. So it’s not like just some wishful thinking from Knicks fans. The SGA trade stuff has been swirling in back room rumors for a while and apparently people are pegging the raptors for a hard push to get him.

I’m still in the mindset that this team was built with hopes that there will be some fire sale action before the trade deadline. The athletic article is basically a bunch of execs saying they still expect a lot of tanking to happen. Though the league parity does make me more iffy than I was at first.

Ainge wasn’t making that trade, he was fukking around
I don’t believe this nor do I see what Ainge gets out of doing such a thing. Ultimately the Jazz had a better deal from a cost analysis standpoint along with more draft compensation. All this bullshyt about being mad at the Knicks that ain’t gonna stop no one from doing a deal that could help their franchise rebuild. To me it’s just a damage control narrative.

Utah’s offer was just better and the Knicks weren’t willing to throw in those last second assets whether it was Grimes or an additional pick to get it done.

Ainge won. The Jazz have a gang of picks and will be a competitive team this season despite trading their best players. They also have other valuable veteran players they can flip to acquire even more picks and young assets.

Well to be fair its not only Knicks fans, it just seems like wishful thinking from everybody on the outside looking in, period. Teams can inquire as much as they want I guess, thats proactive GM'ing that I can respect. I just have not seen anything from Shai's camp saying he has eyes for somewhere else or anything from OKC saying they are actually listening to offers.

It just doesn't add up that the same front office who gave him a multi-year extension would be looking to trade him in the 1st year of the deal, when he's having an All-NBA type season at 24.

I don't really disagree. He signed the big deal, and the Thunder don't really need to trade him (they're probably a lottery team regardless). But my typical belief is that where there's smoke, there's fire. It might be wishful thinking, but when execs start circling a situation I tend to wonder if there's something we don't know. Sometimes it's nothing, sometimes it's something. Beal to Boston had a lot of hype and was a bust. But then Mitchell to New York turned out real.

It's always 50/50 to me.
