If that team isn't out of the bottom 8 by 2026, their gm will be fired. The Beal trade clears 'em 100 million dollars in cap, which is bound to be when they try to make a move. I still think it's got a decent shot to convey.
disagree. This is a process, a process that initially won't really be aided by their draft picks.

That 100 mil in cap is gonna do nothing but attract agents from players who only want the payday. That's just an asset builder. Long story short, if y'all get sick of Randle in a year, they're your recycle bin.

That’s kinda my point. They could eat Randle’s contract and still have 70+ million dollars in cap to spare. The new cba is about to make cap space like that really valuable and could jump start a build.

Plus I just don’t envision GM’s plotting out bottom-10 finishes three years into the future or owners signing on for it. The Philly process hasn’t produced a finals trip and got its gm fired.

Just remember the rumors Isiah is the shadow GM of the suns and now we learn they have zero draft picks until 2029…. Everything is traded or swapped.

Washington’s high water mark has been 35 wins the over the past 5 years. I think the owner and new GM understand that this isn’t going to be a quick turnaround. You don’t make this move if you expect to contend in 2 years. They’re going to be bad, Houston Rockets level bad for at least 3 seasons while they accumulate young talent via the draft and picks by using their cap as a weapon to absorb other team’s horrible contracts(Ben Simmons, anyone?)

This part I co-sign completely. They're not gonna try to contend.

There's a difference between being bad, and bottoming out. Teams don't typically have leeway to bottom out for three straight seasons. They'll bottom out this season and where they fall in the draft lottery will decide what they do with the cap.

I don't expect them trying to contend in the next three years, but I do expect them to try not to suck in that span. It's the gap between wanting to contend and wanting to compete.

Brooklyn ain't gonna pay for Ben to go away.

Yea, writing off the Wizards pick already is kinda wild. 3 seasons is a long ass time. Just go look at how much our roster has changed since the 2020-2021 season…
Also the value in that pick was always a trade piece and it was always the weakest in the group. That Mavs pick, Bucks pick, and Detroit pick were always stronger, and all four should be used in trades.

you can be ass for 3 seasons in a row.

That pick wouldn't have gone to you this year and that's if your protections were at the lightest.

Look at their roster.

Short of the 8th pick becoming everything we think Wemby will be impact-wise, where is the talent coming from? The next 2 freshman classes are LIGHT on talent. They're gonna have to discover every Jokic, Giannis and Draymond over the next 3 years to lose that pick.
