I see Bradley Beal talk picking up steam…I guess id need to see what we traded out to have a strong opinion either way, but idk that move bumps us past the top teams of the East.

But I do think the looming cba could reshape rosters pretty have. Fred Katz has an article about all the ways the new CBA will impact the Knicks (I’ll try to share it when I’m home later). It looks advantageous to the Knicks in a few ways.

Man…how cheap are we talking? That would end up being the last move for years (outside of MLE spending and re-signing guys). But if it’s this same core plus Beal, it’s kind of intriguing.

I just can’t get over that 50 million dollar a year price tag.
That’s where it gets scary, even if you get him for nothing. The new CBA is prohibitive as hell to teams that pass the second tax apron. They can’t trade as many first round picks, they can’t use multiple contracts in one deal to match salaries, and they have to be closer to exact when matching salaries in trades. So if the Knicks don’t get over the hump with Beal, they’d be stuck.

That’s also probably why more player movement than normal is expected. There ought to be a few sellers floating around, and it might be valuable to wait and see who becomes available. I don’t think Beal will be the only talent being offered on a discount, though time will tell.

Edit: talk about timely posting :mjlol:

I agree. With the second tax apron in mind, guys like Barrett, Brunson and Randle are that much more valuable because of their contracts. Conversely Beal is damn near a net negative because of his salary. Beal has a 15% trade kicker too... Washington might have to treat Beal like a salary dump in all honesty.

On me thibs a good defensive coach but offensive challenged

He always depends on his stars too much to get offense instead of running a actual offense

The stagnation on bench in the playoffs is proof of that
Hopefully we can get someone that's a balance of offense & defense & gets the most of the roster who isn't afraid to mix & match. A coach who doesn't need "his kind of guys" all the time lol

Fournier and RJ straight up could get it done id wager. Whether it's worth it is another; I'm not sure myself.

Beal is at $46 next year, Fournier and RJ make $41, so maybe one more salary (McBride?) would have to do it, since I'm not sure how the percentage differences in salary work.

For that price tag it's a no brainier to maintain depth and have someone else that can consistently get buckets, but the team still needs more from the bench. A career loser 30 year old at nearly 50 mil isn't the missing piece, but it will certainly help given RJ's inconsistency, or at least keeps the defense honest.

I really wish they would go through the draft for the wing spots and see what becomes available up front. I don't buy Embiid or KAT, but I'd rather get youth at the wing and some shooting up front. I'd be all for keeping the roster as is, finding a way to grab Porzingis as a super sub and try to make moves for a wing in the draft but that's just me.

Why is the new CBA so prohibitive?

As far as Beal is concerned, I’m not a fan

Fournier and someone else to match the salary. No picks. That’s all I’d do

It's loaded with super-team deterrents. I assume the goal is parity.

One thing that I should mention...we have Brock Aller and he's a cap wiz that studies nuances in the CBA and plans for all sorts of amalgamations. So if the Knicks entertain a Beal move, I'd at least be hopeful that he has a plan for it.
