Some really sloppy titling for this thread. Whites below poverty line at 41%, twice number of poor blacks... makes it sound like 41% of whites are below the poverty line. What the article actually says is: Which is, of course, a completely different story. Whites account for 41 percent of the nation's poor, more than double the number of poor blacks. Why would those numbers be alarming for white people? Whites account for 72.4% of the nation's population, and nearly six times the number of blacks. With the sheer number of white people in the United States, you'd have to expect a good number are poor. The poverty rate among each group, as this thread title misleadingly gestures toward, is the real salient statistic here. And based on the numbers in the article and census population data, the poverty rate among whites is around 8.5%, while the poverty rate among blacks is around 24.4% -- still nearly three times higher than whites. Read critically, brehs.

Cite a negative stat whites lead in, like pedophilia; "oh for Pete's sake! we make up xx% of the country, of course there's gonna be some bad apples here and there. that doesn't mean we're ALL criminals."

That's not to say white poverty is underplayed in comparison to black poverty. But the numbers ought to be considered in the proper context.

black people have always been the canary in the coal mine for what whites will be dealing with next. white out of wedlock births are accelerating now. i was just reading an article on white poverty the other day and they had a white lady complaining about kids turning to drugs because they have nothing better going for them, and they havent even been poor that long, LOL

pretty soon conservatives and uncle toms will run out of excuses and have to admit that some amount of government spending and regulation is always needed to bolster the middle class, except this time you have to make it more equitable to all ethnic groups.
