Well..
This woman would be considered an octoroon, right? Her mom was a quadroon who passed for white and her grandmother was a very light skinned mulattress and grandfather was possibly a light skinned Black man with Negroid features. Just guessing..?
Do I consider this woman to be a Black woman? No. She was not culturally raised as a Black person nor do I believe she has any sort of connection with the Black community.
For me, being Black doesn’t start and end with just having melanin and certain physical characteristics. One must also have to be immersed in the culture in which one is physically ascribed as..
Now, my question is...
By today’s definition used on progressive Black sites, would this woman’s mother qualify as being a Negro bed wench? Does she get a pass for using the n-word? Does the one drop rule still apply in this society and if it does, where does it stop or is their no end to Blackness, according to Black conscious community members and white supremacists? Can her children claim their Black ancestry while being considered decaroons?
