Exactly, easily the stupidest scene in show. There is no way in hell, Negan would return to that dark ass cell after being locked away for almost 8 years. The man could have gone on the road like Dwight and Morgan and found others. They also back to writing Michonne as the angry black woman. Nobody respects her leadership and her own daughter thinks she is a joke.

Why would he go anywhere else? He hears that ish falling to pieces, he knows the people in charge, he knows their weaknesses. He can easily swindle his way to the top of the food chain. He eats there, sleeps, conversation, entertainment...if he wandered the road, he'd have to start all over again and work his way up to the top which could take years. Look at their leadership - Gabriel, Aaron, Saddiq, nameless girl and Michonne. Aside from Michonne, who would you feel threatened by? Hell, the entire council can't even make a good argument without Michonne vetoing everything.
