I think it's deeper than that. A lot of places are known for their food. NYC sandwiches are known to be HUGE, but NYC ain't on the list. NYC got more restaurants per capita than most if not all cities in the US, but NYC ain't on the list.

It's cultural.

I think NYC actually has more restaurants per capita than DC, but your point stands.

I think there's a cultural aspect of eating in large quantities down south. I think lack of solid public transport definitely adds to this as well. 10 mins of walking to and from the station each day helps.

To begin addressing this public health problem, it is important to know where obesity is concentrated in the US. One study took a look at the top 100 most populated cities in the country to answer this question. Researchers counted people who identified as obese or overweight and considered 14 other points as well. These additional points included questions about physical activity, consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables, problems with high blood pressure, and instances of diabetes

Car dependency is another contributing factor that's been documented.
Ok. It's not the biggest reason like you said in the post I quoted. I drive 10-12 hours a day, I should be 600lbs if it was the biggest reason. Let me read the article you posted tho.
