They should’ve tried buying Konami immediately after that, or made some sort of cost cutting deal or something. Kojima has made sooo much money for both those companies for sooooo long that it really shows how fukking incompetent Konami is for butchering silent hills. Could’ve revamped a horror franchise like that in the era of vr and 3D audio (it could be as close as you could possibly get to feeling like you’re in the town, and imagine kojima using psycho mantis PlayStation antics with those features :merchant:) they honestly threw hundreds of millions of dollars down the drain like fukking idiots. :pacspit:

That money is nothing compared to Pachinko and Yugioh.

If anything paying billions for a studio will either create laziness from developers that got paid and are unmotivated or resentment if only the top people got money so the talent will quit and join other companies

People are excited about this but keep forgetting Microsoft track record with Games Studios. They still have a lot to show and prove and are used to forcing bad decisions and horrible focus testing ideas in their releases.

They acquired the Coalition and put their ass on Gears instead of working on their already in process game.

They made Rare make a bunch of shyt games and then a MX pirate game.

It's gonna feel weird how they will still be floundering next year for releases and their recent purchase will be blessing their competitor with at least two games exclusive next year.

So the bethesda purchase is a pretty big get for Microsoft. The only other publisher of that same size or even bigger would be Take-Two but the asking price would be triple of Bethesda.

I think the only purchase that would make some sense due to partnerships would be Square Enix or Capcom. What do you guys think??
Make a new studio and crank out a new classic. Buy Capcom and Konami

Sony doesn't need to, it's 1st party games are on serious point.

Microsoft had to do this, Sony doesn't.

and dudes in here talking about buying Square. :skip:

A company like Capcom sure... Square ain't worth the money

Konami is the best and most obvious choice.

Even if it’s just having bluepoint re-do Metal gear remakes, or kojima doing silent hills
Konami is making bank off of gambling and pachinko. They aren't letting go of their IPs either. Realistically the best thing any company can do is pick up a licence for a game (eg Silent Hill) & develop the game themselves

They could kind of do both. They could retain the rights to the IP’s for pachinko machines while allowing sony theright to develop console games while they still get a small percentage. Majority of ownership can still fall to sony.

Kind of like how marvel is licensing spider-man to sony

Sony can't out-buy Microsoft. But they already have so many proprietary studios, relationships with other publishers. Its a massive loss to Sony not having Fallout/Elder Scrolls ect.

But its not like they didn't dominate the last gen with First Party stuff. All of that Bethesda stuff is still going to come to Steam...so its not so much as Microsoft eating as it is just taking another slice off Sony's plate.
