Which nba star from the 90s or early 2000s do you think would be average in today's game?

Vince Carter wasn't even a superstar in his own era but for only a few years. In this era he'd have been what he's been in his twilight, in his prime. A rotation player, someone who I think could challenge for 6th man annually in his prime, but no respectable jumper and not a great defender...

Yao woulda had much less hype in this era. Shawn Marion probably wouldn't have made a single All-NBA team and maybe two All-Stars at best..

Yao would have been a beast earlier though. Imagine him in the 1980s or 1990s. Mark Eaton racked up two DPOY awards and an all-star appearance despite no background in basketball and no meaningful NBA-level skill or athleticism. Yao would basically have been Eaton but with real touch, post moves, a jumper, passing skills, and bball IQ. Would have stomped on teams for as long as his knees held together.

Tacko fall is a summer league sensation strictly due to height and yaos jumper was butter

He'd be hitting threes and everyone would be like damn this big chinese dude can ball his ass off

Vince was an all time talent. You are doing too much.

Jason Kidd would look a lot different in today’s NBA since he couldn’t shoot. He would be forced to improve his jumper or would be a bigger Rondo on offense.

Latrell Spreewell would be a sixth man in today’s nba. He may have a long career out of it, but his jumper was wrecked.

Stockton made 11 All-NBA teams from 1988 to 1999.

Now imagine him trying to compete against Curry, Dame, Kyrie, Harden, Westbrook, and CP3 for those spots. Even the next tier of Wall, Lowry, Klay, DeRozen, Kemba, Oladipo...anyone putting a John Stockton averaging something like 12 and 10 over them?

He'd be grinding as the starting point guard for some team but no way he'd be seen as a top-10 guard in this age.
You're making the same mistake and most in these type of discussions thinking you can just pluck a 90s player into this game without taking the differences in eras into account. Stockton was capable of scoring more than he did he just played a different game in a different era. Stockton was always a good shooter, and even from distance when he decided to shoot. Plus he was a master of the pick n roll which is even more of a staple now than when he played. You put a prime Stockton in today's league with a big that can score plus shooters and he'd easily be one of the best point guards in today's league.

I also disagree about Clyde. Obviously Clyde was extremely right hand dominant but let's not pretend that harden doesn't dominate the regular season being extremely left hand dominant. Clyde's size and athleticism(speed, strength, explosion) at the 2 would still be elite in today's league and even tho he wasn't a great jump shooter, he proved that he could be decent from 3 at a time when there wasn't as much emphasis on it. He had he came up shooting 3s he would've been much better than he was. Clyde and Stockton would still be great players in today's game.

Yea in a league where a guy like Danny green is the starting 2 on the nba champs, Latrell sprewell would be a bench player.

Dude said glove would be average in today's game. Kemba walker is all nba but glove would just be average.
Kemba walker is a better scorer than GP. Most teams play fast and GP half court defense is all time great. With the league running fast breaks and launching threes I don't see him being as effective. It was more of a half court league then

You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Anybody comparing players from different eras without taking that into consideration is too ignorant as a fan to take seriously.

Clyde Drexler wouldn't be "average" but he would't be a superstar in this era. His jump shot was too broken and he could only go right on the dribble and looked at the ball. Plus his basketball IQ was never very high (MJ and Phil famously mocked him for it) and he used to eat a ton off the fast break which ain't that big now. Back in that day his size/athleticism was unusual for a guard, but now there are a lot more guys in his range and defenses would just shade him right and then what? Exactly what would Drexler do in this era that, say, Wiggins can't do?

Tom Chambers would be just another guy now that every big man has range out to at least 18 feet.

What would Vin Baker be now?

I don't think Mark Price would be able to get his shot off nearly as easily and he would be food on defense. He's too short and too slow - if today's defensive pgs got in his grill then what? Look at how Jimmer struggled to stay in the league and remember that Price was even smaller than him. He would still have a place in the NBA because his ballhandling and passing was much better, but he wouldn't be making no all-star teams and might not even start depending.

Imagine Gordon Hayward if he was 5 inches shorter. And you have Jeff Hornacek.

Rodman would be a bigger liability on offense because back then you had to have a man guarding him, now you could just ignore him completely. Look at the treatment Draymond got when his shot fell off - Rodman would get even less respect than that. On defense he wouldn't be quite as valuable because off-ball defense inside is a lot more important than on-ball defense, and a lot of those big men are dropping back and shooting over guys too. Not that he wouldn't still be an elite defender, it just wouldn't have the same value now that it did then.
Youre wrong about Mark Price. He was the father of splitting the pick and roll plus could finish with either hand. He would eat today.
