Like I said above, didn't post it to highlight hand checking, but to compare/contrast the actual defense the Pistons played against Jordan with the defense Boston played against Kobe. e.g. both employed trapping, collapsing man-to-man defenses.
well this thread isnt about who faced tougher defenses. Its about hand checking vs zone defenses.

I'd say no hand-check. The thing is that it allows refs to whistle a foul almost on every play, meaning defensive players are much more cautious (whether they are good defenders or not), meaning it's easier for offensive players. Some calls are beyond ridiculous. The no-hand check rule is basically what started this whole wack ticky-tack foul era IMO :scusthov::snoop::to:.
What do you clal your opinion when there are LESS fouls being called since the no hand check rule compared to back then?

Zone Defense in the NBA is overstated, first off only maybe a handful of teams even empoy zone defense to begin with and that's for maybe 2 or 3 posessions a quarter to change to tide of the game. Secondly, it's not a true zone as their is a 3 second rule and does not allow you to pack the paint. Good ball movement can beat zone and get you wide open shots with ball movement.

Handchecking allows certain stronger defenders to redirect the offensive player to whichever way the defense allows them to make dribble penetration tougher, and shots more difficult to take. Like what dude posted about the ISO Joe Johnson comment earlier.

NBA teams almost never bother setting up zones anyway.
That shyt is for college and euro leagues.

Would you rather hand check a guy like Lebron or Kobe 1v1, or collapse a defense around them and force them to pass the ball? We've seen Bron and Kobe look bad against a zone when they didnt have reliable shooters around them.

Thats what I thought alot of those times he wasnt either passing the ball or he was passing it too late or overdribbling his defenders to the nikkas he's passing it to making it easier for them transition off of him.

Dude posted that Jordan video to show that there was still collapsing of defenses on players even w/o a zone. So the question would be would you rather be able to handcheck and collapse a defense or just collapse a defense?

and the bulls lost.

The Lakers played a zone in the 80s to protect Magic too. It hides players better and is harder to break.

:laff: The guy doing that video is such an idiot. Kobe was playing right into that defense by not passing to open guys. Regardless of the NBA rules, you're easy to defend if you play 1 on 5.

Pretty much. Im watching this like :comeon: and saying so is this nikka going to ignore the fact that Kobe is over-dribbling and passing the ball to late or the fact that Kobe is dribbling the defenders right into the players he's trying to pass to making it a much easier transition for them on D or the fact that Kobe is just not passing the ball period.

Didn't know that, but at least from what I recall back those calls were REAL calls, as opposed to now where guys gets called for fouls for not flopping. So yeah, maybe there are less calls now, but there are more bs calls IMO. And since guys are avoiding defending because of how fouls are called, it only makes sense that there are less overall calls being made. It's hard to get called for a foul when you're not defending.
