If you had the financial means & already had a job lined up, which country in Africa would you move to, and why?

I’ve been thinking about making that move lately, but it would be a few years from now. I’ve looked into Botswana, but for my career field, I don’t think that would be the best choice.

I’m just trying to get a feel for what would be a good destination for moving to Africa as a AA male.

Good question. Tanzania, South Africa(maybe), Ivory Coast(if I knew French), Botswana. Tanzania interests me the most especially Dar es Salaam.

As for you I suggest visiting as a tourist than flat out moving. See if you like it. Moving to a whole other continent especially Africa is not 1, 2, 3. Seen it first hand when I visited one of my relatives(she not African btw) there.

I know it’s a cop out, but Seychelles. I wouldn’t exactly be moving back to work. It always felt like hustling backwards.

I’d rather have the money work me (loans to mainland locals, equity stakes In Eskom and SafariCom), while I chill on a beach. @staticshock, you could always work remotely as well, so there really isn’t anything forcing you to recreate your old life on the continent.:yeshrug: Be free.

I specifically chose stocks in a utility and a telecom because those are bound to grow as development grows.

That’s a tough one. If you’re admin then any mega city (Abuja, Lagos, Nairobi, JohanesB) .

If not...
And I assume that you realy realy want to reconnect with locals?

Teaching(non-stem) as a profession is really saturated on the continent, almost to the extent of the states in the 1890s to the 1940s, where black women were encouraged to teach, or become a nurse. The reason I asked about your connection to the people is because North Africa would throw money and cover your housing expenses if you decided to go there, but the caveat is the lack of black folk.

conversely, if you specialized in stem education I second, @Jesus is my protector, for Dar es Salam for 4 reasons.
  • Their market is badly in need of math/science educators meaning your personal stock goes up
  • English,English, english
  • Some of the nicest people on the planet.
  • Infrastructure is modern but also has a mix of Swahili/ arabic, Indian, Brittish colonial buildings and the BEACHES:blessed:

I was just talking to my sister about this..she and her husband are planning to move to Gambia in a few years..
Ive been in love with Botswana, but I did some research and saw that it's population is low and it's spread out, and many teachers are volunteers at rural schools.

Im sure they have schools in big cities I can work at, but it looks like another nation would be better.

Have you ever been to North Africa? I wouldn't mind living in Egypt. Do they consider themselves African or Arab?

I really dont wanna go to South Africa..dont wanna be around any white people.

And im a special ed teacher, but im sure I can pass a EASL test and teach english..I also help out with the marching band at my school, but idk how they do music classes in Africa

Oh, I see. Nah, only been to continent’s Eastside and Westside, but I have been mulling around the idea of that pyramid trip.

I did compEng in college, so my intel’s from a few Algerians, Egyptians, and Saudis that we’re sent stateside to train by their gov’ts in electricEng. They were really cool with me, more so than the cacs on campus. From what I gather, they are extremely Arab. With the exception of Algeria and Libya, “African” really isn’t a concept up there(as we can see from that Sudan war). Post Ghãdafi, I can’t really speak for Libya, but Algerians got that admixture and always stood out from the rest of North Africa.

Ironically, the Arabs living in subsaharan Africa consider themselves African first:pachaha:. Blew my mind to see them moving with and like locals in Mombasa. They even got them on the the local TVslots on their version of GoodMorningAmerica.

Wish I could get you something more concrete. Try dipping your toes in the water with a trip North. You might just find out it’s like Miami, where most ATL brehs can take a vacation, but don’t really want to set down roots.

For me it would have to be a country where English is spoken and a place where I have DNA. Liberia or Sierra Leone would be at the top of my list, because I loved the people and the landscape. However, they need major infrastructure improvement to spur development. I plan to visit Ghana and Nigeria so I will see what they have to offer.

IMMIGRANT TETHERS
Senegal-it's my number one because of it's sunny climate, as compared to other coastal WA countries, has great beaches. Dakar doesn't try to look like a western city. It has it's own charm and a great night life. All kinds of things to do in the day. it has a great urban sprawl with their own culture.

Tanzania-Dar es Salaam is going through some rapid change. All kinds of developments that's gonna be happening in this decade and I want to experience that. I want a property by coco beach when it's done with redevelopment.

South Africa- like I said, I prefer sunny climates

Ivory Coast- after SA cities, Abidjan is by far the most develop city in Africa. It also has alot in tourist attracting projects in the works. downside is, they love french people and will almost practically lose all their indigenous language beside the North.

im looking to visit gambia, seychelles, ivory coast, niger, senegal, tanzania heard its nice there. i hope to visit other spots folks normally dont talk about.
that rapper dude from oakland is chilling Brukina Faso . to be honest, id say go wherever your income takes you "along" with interests levels and what kind of lifestyle your looking for. artistic local community?beach town? countryside?city? high end?upper class? middle class neighborhoods . one country can provide all. after all, each country has industries and businesses and the lifestyle you may be seeking .

,some european folks moving to angola recently. . this is a good topic. also folks in the carribean should entertain that thought as well at least for retirement if they cannot at least you can still invest from afar or perhaps live part time depending on your job such as a teacher or remote careers...

places like rwanda has made tremendous strides in their economy. be on the look out for congo as far as brothers in congo living abroad dont sleep. lots of youtube channels good insight on people moving back or visiting. id say pick a country and vacation there get a tourist agency and network

on a side note, this african sista hosts trainings, books, videos on youtube promotes buisiness in africa ideas for folks living abroad and she has a recent video on how to import products from africa to abroad

Ghana Botswana Rwanda maybe Namibia. Especially Botswana it was the fastest growing economy in the world for the past 30 or 40 years grew faster than even China. It could lowkey end up being the black homeland or black Israel. If it encourages more African Americans to come invest and build jobs since the population is so smalll it could drastically increase the GDP. It has so much rooom for growth. Also has one of the highest HDI. The only weakness are it’s reliance on diamonds high hiv rate and unemployment rate. The big rate has been decreasing though. It’s unemployment rate could decrease with more jobs being built. They call it the Switzerland of Afrixa.
