End Thread. Was just about to post that before the New york vs Jamaica fight starts.

Its an answer we can all take pride in. No one can take all the credit. It started in Africa(like everything else in the world) and then found itself and became self aware in New York only after taking a detour in the Caribbean. So NYC is where it became what it is and announced itself to the world but the journey started a long time ago with some african dude beating on a drum while speaking.

I wouldn't even say that considering AAs been cutoff from our African roots more than any other group in the diaspora. Hip hop is a direct result of our experience in this country

Disco music is an offshoot of R&B which is an offshoot of the blues. You gone learn today:ufdup:

@IllmaticDelta
I know my music history son and hip hop started in NYC and dj kool herc was the founding member and he was influenced by his Caribbean culture growing up which used djs to host parties. Y'all Americans seem to forget NYC has a lot of people from the islands who shaped hip hop.

Honest question.
:ohhh:

I was of the impression it started in the boogie down.

@MoroccanBoy claims it was Jamaica..Which is it.m:ohhh:

it started in the usa from a strand of southern afram culture

and then mixed with afram disco culture in various areas of NYC

It was the Bronx.
The dj part came from Jamaica

na, the dj'ing part is from afram disco culture

Hip hop was grew from islanders party culture which a dj would play songs while people danced and had a good time. That is what I mean by the dj part.

dj culture is jamaica is a direct result of them hearing afram radio dj's and the jukebox/dj's they saw in america when they came over to the usa

Breh, you know we were building amps from scratch since the 40s right? :comeon:

again,this was all inspired by their love for afram radio dj's

Spoken word comes from Africa. DJing is an entirely Western concept.

Spoken word beget Rapping but is not Rapping. Just like the banjo comes from the African Sahel and beget the Blues but Malian music isn't the Blues which is a creolized artform.

Idk why folks have issues admitting how influence and cultural exchange happens in the diaspora.
