Where to get a dog

So I'm thinking about getting a dog.
But I've heard shady things about some places not treating animals the right way.

What's a good place to start?
A pet shelter?
Individual seller?

Where did you get your dog?

if you just want a random dog and dont care too much check your local humane society, benefit is your dog will come with neutered, health checked , shots and a ID

if you have a specific breed in mind check your local "Rescue" groups for that specific breed , benefits are the same as the humane society but these places like to do background checks which ppl find annoying

if you dont care about checks or you dog coming with none of the shots or the background and getting them slightly cheaper check your local craiglist

if you want to pay top dollar , know the full linage of your dog , plan to show your dog in dog shows etc and have extra money check breeders

But most are not. They are abandoned by their owners because they become a "burden" to take care of. Why even get a pet in the first place.

I'm in NY...I guess MD isn't TOO far, but I'm not ready just yet to take the plunge.

I'm asking now to get information and advice. My building doesn't really allow pets but my lease is up in the Spring so I figured if i went and got a dog, I should research now in case I have to find a new place.

Yea you're not far but my pupps aren't due until March and even after they are born they wont be ready to rehome until 8 weeks after. Just holla at me if you want one.
