I know Undertaker's showing up at WrestleMania. I know he's coming back for a match and I know Cena's going to face him. I'm not stupid enough to think this match really isn't happening. It's the route they're taking to get to this match that doesn't make any sense.
There's nothing nuanced or complex about this. Cena has been calling out Undertaker for weeks to get a WrestleMania match, and he hasn't responded. That's not a storyline at all. There's nothing to this story except what we're seeing on screen. We all know the match is happening, so the company isn't pulling the rug over anyone's eyes by not actually having Undertaker accept the challenge on TV. They don't even know 100% if the match is happening this year, if the report I read is accurate.
To think this storyline has nuance and layers, you have to accept that:
1. Cena has no pull to set up a WrestleMania match with anyone else, because the only reason he's calling out Undertaker is because he failed to get to WrestleMania in any other way. If Cena wins the Royal Rumble or Elimination Chamber, this story doesn't exist.
2. Steph/Kurt and Shane/DB aren't trying to get Cena to compete against any one of their guys on their roster at WrestleMania. They're perfectly fine with having the biggest star in the company attend the biggest show of the year as a fan.
3. None of the younger guys are trying to take advantage of this and make a name for themselves by challenging Cena.
That's a lot to accept for something that's supposed to be nuanced. If they really wanted to go that route, then don't mention Undertaker on TV at all. After his RAW 25 promo, that's it. Don't have Cena mention him at all either. That way when the match happens, we're legit shocked that Undertaker shows up. They're not fooling anyone by having Cena fail at calling out Undertaker, because how will this storyline end? By Undertaker showing up. That's the only ending they can do, unless they decide to do the match next year which will make absolutely no sense at all.
But let me guess, if that does happen, that's just good long-term storytelling. Not the result of a company that doesn't know how to book shyt the simple, smart way anymore.
TL;DR - We all know the match is happening, but the "storyline" to get to the match is dumb and doesn't have any thought put into it.

Maybe instead of getting his match, John Cena hosts the show and continues to call out the Undertaker throughout. Before the main event John comes out to talk to the crowd and then the light dims ... Taker comes out, chokeslams him then leaves. That way, we get the Undertaker but no match. Best possible outcome for everyone since John looks stupid if he's only calling out Taker for him to no show.
Although Lashley spearing him would work too.

I was actually thinking they might just do an angle tonight or tomorrow leading to the match next year, but seeing that they put it on the poster with a "this match may not happen" disclaimer, I'm sure it's happening this year.
