Bilz, you're hilarious. While some people may give him too much credit, you don't give him any. And it looks like you might have found a Laker trolling buddy.

Defensively I never saw Kobe as being anything special. He probably could have been special at it if he dedicated himself to that side but Phil Jackson flat out said he tried to conserve Kobe's energy on that side. I'm not giving him credit for being a shutdown defensive player if he's playing free safety on scrubs while allstar offensive players are being guarded by his teammates.

Iverson was a scrub?! The video I posted earlier shows him on Iverson A LOT! And the game that Iverson had 48 against us, Tyron Lue had most of the coverage.

So you don't remember Rondo beating Fish like a rented mule? :stopitslime:

There aren't many players that haven't beaten Fish like a rented mule. I don't know what that says. If the Lakers had Kobe chasing Rondo through screens and around the perimeter, he would have been destroyed too. The strategy changed when the personnel changed.

It's the same reason that Phil put Kobe on Westbrook 2 years ago in the playoffs. Kobe was a better cover for him. Westbrook used to torture Fish.

Exactly. Because once they put Kobe on Westbrook, they just packed the middle and tried to tempt the Thunder to live by Westbrook's outside shot as opposed to his drives. It's not like Kobe was out there trying to get into his uniform or anything. They were basically just zoning up.

its a shame 2005-2010 kobe greatest offensive player the league has ever seen took till 08 to get him any help
Kobe was past his prime in 2010. No where as good as he was in 06,07 & 08.

Kobe was more dominant in the 2008 playoffs than he was in the 09 playoffs too. He just ran into a better team in the finals in 08.

Be careful what you say folks. Houston911 seems rather sensitive, handing out negative reps and tossing insults instead of debating a post that he doesn't like or agree with. Right back at you my man, ill take solace in knowing that I can hurt feelings so easily.

fair enough, but I think that's over-simplifying the situation... Kobe was hindered by the lack of talent around him in those first few post-Shaq years, but at the same time, had he been given a legitimate 2nd option earlier, his numbers wouldn't be nearly as eye-opening because he wouldn't have a green light to the same extent that he did... the fact that Lebron clearly makes the players around him better while also still getting his on O and dominating a game in ways other than scoring is what makes him a top 5 talent all time to me

now while Bron won a ship with arguably the most talented roster in the league (I think OKC's roster is better, but that's for another day), but you can't discredit him for such considering Kobe's teams have only won championships when his roster was also the most talented in the league

Did Bron lose last year when his team was the most talented in the NBA? Yes, but Kobe did the same in 04, so Kobe stans can't throw dirt on his name using that either
Lakers team in 04 was old and injured.

Malone was 40 and missed the finals, Payton was 35 and a scrub, Fox was injured. We had to play a rookie Luke Walton in the finals and start Slava Medvedenko at the 4 for crying out loud. :comeon:

But at the same time you're ignore the other times he was on him, that's all I'm saying.

He had times when he did well on AI but I saw him get eaten by him sometimes too. In those days, he played a lot more defense and I have no problem with the defensive awards he won back then even though I never would have called him a shutdown defender. Since Shaq left, he had to play more straight up defense and was subsequently hidden from dangerous offensive players much more often.

the only thing kobe is better than lebron at is outside shooting.

lebron has him in defense, rebounding, assists.

Kobe has never even come close to shooting 50% for a season. 47% isn't even achievable for him.
Kobe is also the better man to man defender.

so the Lakers weren't the overwhelming favorites to win the title in 04? the Pistons beating them was not seen as an upset?
