In a discovery that sheds new light on the history of AIDS, scientists have found evidence that the ancestor to the virus that causes the disease has been in monkeys and apes for at least 32,000 years — not just a few hundred years, as had been previously thought.

That means humans have presumably been exposed many times to S.I.V., the simian immunodeficiency virus, because people have been hunting monkeys for millenniums, risking infection every time they butcher one for food.

And that assumption in turn complicates a question that has bedeviled AIDS scientists for years: What happened in Africa in the early 20th century that let a mild monkey disease move into humans, mutate to become highly transmissible and then explode into one of history’s great killers, one that has claimed 25 million lives so far?

Among the theories different researchers have put forward are the growth of African cities and the proliferation of cheap syringes.

Confirming that the virus is very old also helps explain why it infects almost all African monkeys but does not sicken them. Over many generations, as any disease kills off vulnerable victims, the host adapts to it.

A couple of FACTS:

1) SIV has been documented by various countries.

2) HIV and AIDS as a bioweapon or population control is utterly inefficient. The incubation period is TOO long. It's chances of contraction are under 50%.

3)HIV and AIDS didn't just come from nowhere. It was only after the 70s and 80s break out that scientists went back and started realizing people had died from it earlier. They didn't know how to classify it originally.

4) It doesn't matter if you can't fathom the link between bushmeat and homosexual populations, it happened. For the H1N1 (swine) flu, patient "Zero" was a small boy in Central America. That's how diseases spread. You never know if some homo was tourist and ate some bad meat or decided to fukk his tour guide or something.

Some of the shyt being tossed around here in this thread are dangerous, especially to minority communities. Education and knowledge are the only way to curb getting infected. Stop poisining our own people.

are you saying SIV was found in other monkeys in other continents besides africa? and if so, you don't think those people in other countries outside of the one's in africa ate monkeys? cuz them asian's would eat a monkey with no problem..and they definetly would've back in them days..muthafukkas was starving jack

From the viewpoint of a gradual depopulation scenario I could see the idea of an engineered virus being used to do that.

But....

There are easier way's to do that without crippling a potential work force especially in the third world region, where the population could be galvanized en masse for peanuts.

Or....

The whole thing was an experiment gone awry, hell third world countries like Africa by extension the children of the diaspora In the American continent and fringe/sub communities like homosexual community (they were at a time still are in a number of ways) would make perfect lab rats.

I find it amazing you posted that because they took her cells from her cervix and cultivated them ONLY because her cervix was infected with an STD. That would make one think they used that as the catapult for the AIDS virus.
But that was in 1951.
The AIDS virus supposedly came to America from Haiti in the 60's, and the Haitians got that virus sometime btwn 1930 and 1960 from Africa.
It was festering in the 70's in the states and wasn't documented until 1981.
I don't know what's true but I don't think the government created it. I think our sodom and gomorahh lifestyle fukkd us over when it got here and it spread through sex and drugs in the 70's.
Gays and a Hatian aren't the only ones who spread AIDS btwn the 60's and the 90's. To think that is childish and foolish.
