DjHed and Elliott talked about it last month, most publications being from New York are making people who live there believe the east coast sound is the "traditional" and "basic" hip hop sound, when its actually just regional lol.Most hip hop media are from the East coast, which makes you believe everyone in the US is bumping your east coast music, but its not true at all lol. People from the South/West listen to their artists. Some didn't even know who Jay Z was before he married Beyonce
Jay Z highest selling album came out BEFORE he started dating Beyonce. Vol 2 sold like 5 million records which came out in 1998. He had a nationwide arena tour with DMX before dating Beyonce. Jay def was a nationwide star after 1998.
Just like a lot of rappers from other regions that east coast nikkas called regional acts.
