Me bringing this up stems from when GloRilla was trolling and said she was unfamiliar with Kanyes "Runaway" song when Kai Cenat was playing it on the piano and bunch of the comments were like "Kanye didn't get play out in Memphis."
It reminded me of when I'd hear all types of people saying stuff like "My city didn't bump Biggie and Nas." Saying your city wasn't bumping Nas and Biggie and you sticking your chest out as if that's a badge of honor just confirms you aren't a real Hip Hop head. The following are tapes I had in 1991. I was a kleptomaniac as a young teen so my tape collection was massive so it also included rock music:
1991:
WC and The Maad Circle "Ain't A Damn Thing Change
DJ Quik "Quik Is The Name"
NWA "nikkaz4Life"
Ice Cube "Death Certificate"
Cypress Hill
AMG "bytch Betta Have My Money"
MC Hammer "2 Legit To Quit"
Geto Boys "We Can't Be Stopped"
The Convicts
2 Live Crew "Sports Weekend "
DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince "Homebase "
That's Cali, Texas, Philly and Miami. So if I was into other regions as far back as 91 but other regions say they wasn't listening to what was going on in NYC, then that just confirms they weren't really into Hip Hop music like that and they aren't real Hip Hop heads.
