Whenever I hear somebody attack rap as simplistic or an easy art form....

I always think of the Grammy Family freestyle. One of the most complex set of rhyming words I ever heard.

I let this older white English teacher I used to work with hear it and she wasn't impressed at first, but then when we I went through the song with her. She just sat there for a couple of minutes with her mouth wide open.

Anyone who says rap is simplistic pisses me off. Especially production wise. Ok smart ass, here's a bunch of records and an SP1200, no instruction manual, etc now show me how you can make TROY or 3 Is The Magic number or Lyrics To Go or Mass Appeal or 93 Til infinity etc etc

As far as rhyming goes, write and tell me a story as engaging, funny and moral as Children's Story or as tense as Stray Bullet or as dramatic and chilling as Alive On Arrival

i don't see how that would convince the person you're referring to that rap isn't simplistic. it was a good verse but not stance shifting.

Anyone who says that isn't worth talking to.

Then again those people are easy to rope in cause they think every single rapper has the same flow and talks about the same shyt

All you have to do is play them a "deep song" from like an above average lyricist and they'll do a 180

And become Nas stans lol

explain to your co-worker how rap is the most lyrically complex out of all the musical genres.

It's funny and I mention this all the time. Rap is looked upon as a joke. It's a complete mockery of music to some people. Especially with what's going on today. Then you have all these old artist who have fallen off so bad, and are quick to change all their morals just to stay relevant.

It's honestly one complete mess. I've never seen a genre go up and back down so quick. They fought to get respect in the 80's, started to get credit in the 90's, and turned into a circus in the late 2000's.

Once again this line will always be tied with the music. AND I love Jay's music, but this line coming from the most popular man in rap of all time has a stain in the culture, "I dumbed down my music to double my dollars"...

Btw..... I don't care what anyone say's, this line has harmed the culture more than anything Eminem has done.

I think those who say that dont understand whats being said in the songs. And they consider it just talking, b/c the vocal has no melody, they say it's "not music"

But if they saw the lyrics and had some context, they'd see how great certain rappers are.

rap IS simple, the most difficult thing about the music industry is actually MAKING IT, its like being a politician, but rap is simple, this doesn't make it LESS HOT though
