Compared to the rest of the city and the SFBA in general yeah it was high. In general no it wasn't. Bougie white folks had yaw thinking it was crazier than it was.

It's easy for you to say that but one of the realities of not being the majority population in the Bay Area and California in general is that A LOT of anti-black public policy has been passed without too much opposition. A big reason the Point is "tame" these days is thanks to constitutionally-illegal gang injunctions being forced on us to keep us indoors and forfeit our sidewalks and storefronts to white people. Gentrification in the Fillmore/Hayes Valley and the Mission (and the Point for that matter) would NEVER have happened the way it did without gang injunctions. Oakland's implemented them as well in North Oakland and Fruitvale... Despite the fact that the vast majority of "gang violence" happens in Deep East Oakland and West Oakland. They're able to gentrify, uproot and oppress our neighborhoods in ways that would never happen in Atlanta, Memphis and etc. because we don't have political capital.

That makes sense. That's kinda my point though. I'm on the side of blacks and black culture in SFBA and everywhere else. Why allow OPs to lay claim to the culture if my people aren't present and theres beef on top of that? You won't give blacks a fair shake in real life but want to jump on backs in the name of "urban" and "hip hop" culture? I'm not with that.

so too short and hammer had no influence on rap and oakland had no black culture? yeah, oakay.and op isnt black.

@Mephistopheles the real reason why posters reppin' the bay go so hard is because 9/10 of them are non-black, and the demographics of the bay is majority non-black. Hip Hop culture and black culture in the bay in general is weak, so they use the bay area music scene as an IN or justification to be apart of our culture. The same way they pretend the demographics of Oakland is the same as it was in the Black Panther era.

he's not black either, so what do you mean our culture?

I fukks with Rosco, he got a dope style.

That being said, how the fukk can you appreciate Ab Liva or Rosco and not appreciate Bay Area rappers in the same vein (Mob Figaz, Whoridas, etc.)?

This is literally that Neptunes/Clipse shyt before that Neptunes/Clipse shyt even existed.

The problem with this argument is that the Hip Hop scene in the Bay Area is overwhelmingly created by and for black folks in the Bay Area.

I'm half black and half Indian....Bermudian/Guyanese. You could've just asked first before you spoke out of ignorance.
