Compared to the rest of the city and the SFBA in general yeah it was high. In general no it wasn't. Bougie white folks had yaw thinking it was crazier than it was.
It's easy for you to say that but one of the realities of not being the majority population in the Bay Area and California in general is that A LOT of anti-black public policy has been passed without too much opposition. A big reason the Point is "tame" these days is thanks to constitutionally-illegal gang injunctions being forced on us to keep us indoors and forfeit our sidewalks and storefronts to white people. Gentrification in the Fillmore/Hayes Valley and the Mission (and the Point for that matter) would NEVER have happened the way it did without gang injunctions. Oakland's implemented them as well in North Oakland and Fruitvale... Despite the fact that the vast majority of "gang violence" happens in Deep East Oakland and West Oakland. They're able to gentrify, uproot and oppress our neighborhoods in ways that would never happen in Atlanta, Memphis and etc. because we don't have political capital.
