When you first saw this, did you think he would be a star?

I did think Carlito had next. Combination of both his work ethic and creative to why he failed, but damn what a disappointment he was.

MVP was never going to be anything than a midcarder to me. I hated his gear then and hate it now, even though the Black Panther touch is cool. His mic skills were good, but never great IMO. He just didn't have that "it"...he's a case of I think people wanting him to be better than what he actually is. Again, good dude...solid midcarder...but his career was about as good as it could have been save the WWE not making him at least a Dolph Ziggler tier midcarder.

Yeah but it was never main event level....a clear ceiling. And the Hornswoggle skit was way too far. Horrible.
I think the wanted him to be. He just didnt show the WWE is my entire life i dont care about anything else work ethic they want.

Hornswoggle skit was way at the end of his career.

Besides the attire part (which he fixed by wearing under armor/compression gear under it), zero of this is true. Other than the garbage they made up to not push him higher, there was no reason why he couldn’t have ascended higher than he did, especially during that 07-10 period where you had Orton and Edge stat padding and Rey, Swagger, and Sheamus winning titles.

Never understood where this "lazy" argument came from other than dirt sheets. I remember when they turned him heel and he wrestled very differently. Moonsaults and psuedo lucha shyt. He just worked a very slow pace and wasnt very crisp in his movements.

In a time where your top guys would have a VERY limited moveset, how could Carlito be considered "lazy"?

He seemed to have a never ending push for a while and didn't deserve it. He was lazy, average wrestler at best, physique looked like shyt, he didn't care.

Does OP remember that he beat Cena 2x for titles? US and Intercontinental.

Uhhh i thought cena was never iC champ?

nikka just ain't have it IMO :yeshrug:

They bought him back as the chiseled vet now and I still have no interest in him. Get a time machine and put Montez with the gimmick and Montez would have took it to top level.

But I never said he was a bum, I pretty much agreed with you that he could have made it to Dolph Ziggler tier of the midcard. He never showed anything to be world championship worthy though.

I don’t know shyt and you know how wrestling politics go but I thought the speculation was he was complacent. He was fine with where he was at and wasn’t bothering anyone to do better shyt :manny:

Breh was just getting a check

I’ll never forget tha time Carlito wrestles RVD on RAW n started busting out high flying lucha libre moves outta nowhere. The potential was there.....WWE creative at tha time didn’t have tha smarts to write him correctly. It’s lije WWE creative loses their brains when writing black or brown ppl. Plus, this was around tha time Stephanie McMahon took over creative

:scust:
Dirt sheets said Stephanie actually told him to “Act like you’re The Rock when you’re out there.”

Carlito was ok but c'mon the guys ceiling was midcard/tag guy.

I never saw him as main event level. Maybe if he changed the gimmick up.

No. It felt to me that Carlito was a toned down template of Razor Ramon. That persona would have a limited shelf life as Scott Hall created that persona.

He didn't put together good matches and barely held up his half. He turned face around the time Jeff Hardy came back in 06 and Jeff was getting all those big pops. So he did more athletic spots but his matches weren't really shyt except a couple of triple threats with Jeff and Shelton. He just wasn't that good..he was a mic presence guy and thats good enough in the WWE..it carried Lana, AJ Lee, Bliss, Estrada. Alot of types. He just wasn't a money promo guy week in and week out..last good match I remember was his qualifying MITB match with gold standard version Shelton on ECW that was like over 20 mins. Shelton changed up and was more brutal with his strikes when he got that US title push in 08. Carlito was doing a few spots...that just wasn't dynamic enough.
