Certain people don't associate with hiphop cause Nigo isn't hiphop he's a Japanese designer. It was also not a endorsed sneaker, it was his own brand and besides that he's not even a singer he's a singer and pop/hiphop/r&b producer. And I would say that it's associated with hiphop, just like snapbacks but not strictly hiphop. And also he didn't target hiphop with the brand just check the site http://bbcicecream.com, not a single black model.

And I don't know if it sold more than G-uni and S. Carter sneakers. The numbered once obviously didn't and I don't know if the other ones did (maybe combined) and I still remember Pharrell rocking bape sneakers a lot more.
