When will we see a black man dominate the tennis game?

thats a terrible comparison.... like puerto rican gary status.

we're gonna act like all you truly need to learn how to box aren't your two fists?

a guy can get into a fistfight and get the best of someone, just cause he's naturally a better fighter... you aint doing shyt on a tennis court without proper training.
You've clearly never boxed. You can't just stay at the crib and shadow box by yourself for six months and think you're going to be able to go to a gym and compete with kids that have been training properly. You need gloves, tape, protective gear, you need a boxing gym, and you need somebody with experience to teach you how to box. It takes a lot more than just "your two fists".

And what the fukk does winning a fistfight with "someone" have to do with anything? I'm talking about the actual sport of boxing. You need just as much if not more training in boxing to be great at it as you do in tennis. And you need to start early; most top level fighters had started training well before they started puberty. That whole "naturally a better fighter" shyt is the same as me saying a kid with natural speed and good reflexes would be a good tennis player if given the proper training early on.

Tennis is just as physicall demanding as any other sport. Ya'll ever see those 5 hour, 5 set marathons in 90 degree heat? And that's DOLO! lol

Ready2Rhyme mentioned that it's a country club type of stigma attached. I agree to an extent. Tennis (and golf) have that elitism vibe to it - with the etiquite and manners, which may turn a lot of cats off.

But I think it has more to do with the decline of economics in the inner cities. I'm from Flint Michigan - there were a handful of tennis courts popping up around in the 80's. Not many though. I was lucky living down the street from one which was at the high school. If you wanted to play you had to know someone else with a racquet - which most people didnt have - THEN find a park to play at. Again I was lucky bc my pops taught me and my brothers bc he admired Arthur Ashe and learned to play. It wasnt as easy to go play as baseball or football were - you could just play in the street. And there was just as many bball courts as there were dopehouses.

There were a lot of summer tennis programs too and the turnout was decent. Every city high school had a tennis program also. But when budgets (city and school) go south and unemployment rises - guess what happens? Funding to city parks get cut; lower tier summer sports programs get cut; families cant afford equipment; schools axe the least popular sports; high crime rates make it less safe to be out on the courts. Kids dont even have the option to play at a young age. Where as in the burbs you dont have these issues.

its not easy to dominate, but its very expensive to play

Donald Young was supposed to be that guy, but has not come anywhere close to living up to his potential.

trolling?

donald young lacks power to succeed.

his dad was just a studied finesse all court player.

which gave young an added advantage against tournie players, in his age bracket.

so he knew what to do to win, slow and steady like.

in 2001,...i was out hitting donald young after a short hiatus.

my coach was the top black tennis player in donald yound sr's era.

so,..i know young's slow and stady control game and how it is flawed on the pro level.
you are not about to out consistent pro players like the young's family game is built on.

if not for my child being born in o4.

i was headed to challengers but i needed the money for her.

donald young was no where near malcolm bufford or richie grey.

when bufford was placing first in city.

i placed third in city, and my school had no tennis team.

i was entered in as a special entrant from mr bray.

in state qualifier's i got injured in the qualifying round up 5-o.

i sustained a heel injury, on court and lost thirteen straight games instead of defaulting.

if i had not of had that injury.

who knows what would have happened at state.

Already happened.

Arthur Ashe.

to be honest, arthur ashe kinda cheated to beat connors.

he pitty patted connors on some weak shyt,...

he never played full out and slowed the ball down to njtl level tennis.

which is kinda dishonest amoung top level players.

i am glad he won for black pride and all,..but real talk,..duke was on some bullshyt when he beat connors.

in general black tennis players lack the next level visionary coaching.

in the black community to produce a black champion.

imo,..that is why you will never see a black male champion.

even in the lesser talented gen that are calle pro's now.
you would have to have a past champion on the pro's.

or a very vsionary failed almost power based black player to coach his son himself.

which will not happen as the coaches in black tennis are generally outdated.
the only pro player who could have coached a black champion.

gary brewer lost his legs in a train accident.

he was probably black tennis's last hope as a player or a coach.

Tennis is not a game accessible to most inner city kids like that... you gotta buy rackets, balls, have a court to play on, etc.

plus, no one just picks up a tennis racket and starts ballin, most pro's have been taking tennis lessons since they were 5 years old and them shyts ain't cheap

I worked for the USTA (United States Tennis Association) from 15-21, and worked every US Open in Flushing Meadow Park during that time. The main stadium is named ARTHUR ASHE STADIUM. In the weeks before the US OPEN kicks off they hold summer camps for the same inner city kids you claim tennis is not accessible to. And they gave all these kids their own rackets.

I think he may mean accessible along w/the things you need as far as a teacher, rackets, strings, etc. It's not just about a summer camp, you need year around lessons. I know i'm pointing out the obvious though lol

1) You dudes know nothing about Tennis.

2) Arthur Ashe already existed brehs, so this thread is pointless.
