When/why did it become cool to be the dope fiend in rap?

exactly, and even then, it was limited in scope. the shyt has proliferated every level of urban music now and is literally all over every club/radio song. nikkas turning into zombies, as if we don't have enough issues

yea, but most didn't promote this shyt. you got future singing "i took lsd for the first time i feel great"...the hell. i don't know, i'm not gonna grandstand like i haven't tried some shyt, but i don't promote using drugs and i certainly don't promote doing that shyt on a regular.

yea im saying the same thing basically. back then people dabbled but it wasn't neccsarily the cool thing to do. today peopl brag about it and its the cool thing to do. rappers been rapping about doing drugs tho and im tellin you lot of them were addicts on the low. the difference was it was on the low.

Behind the scenes musicians have always been dope fiends

everyday you get worse

Doing drugs has always been associated with the process of making music.

The biggest reason you hear about it more now is more than likely the simple fact that stuff becomes less taboo as the world continues to progress

shyt has nothing to do w/ rap and wayne isn't at fault smh at that dumb shift to blame

The pharmaceutical industry is at its peak. For example, White people been always talking about heavy drug usage in rap, specifically Oxy and Xanax

It's not even so much Wayne's fault but the fact that Pills and shyt like that didn't make its way to the black community until recent years

Lol @ Wayne making drugs cool.

The unfortunate reality is that drugs have and most likely will always be there no matter the genre of music.
Miles did heroin.
Marvin had a thing for coke.
Bob smoked religiously.
So why are people surprised that rappers like lean, molly, pills, yellow bars etc. ?

I mean even Herbie Hancock has succumbed to recreational drug use

With that said I don't agree with the notion that "good music can only come from drugs" .

X wave in 2002-2003? Dr Dre had a ton of references to it in 1999. Eminem had a lot of drug use and promotion of shyt like 'Purple Pills' somewhere in that time frame as well. It was long before that for sure.

Wu Tang openly rapped about getting 'dusted' in a non negative light and they would be the first I could remember really glorifying the use of non-weed/alcohol. There was a lot of people prior to that rapping about weed and alcohol of course. All the rest I don't remember people talking about until Wu Tang with the PCP heavy.
2001 came out like 6 weeks before 2000 breh :lolbron:
Yeah Wu rapped about dust - the difference is that nowadays that second Wu album would have been called "Smoke Dust Forever 2" :russ:

Eh I say it was when rappers started making basketball money..... corporations began getting the free promotion and the rest is history..... Nagas was talking but doin coke on that old as white lines song. With the decline of lyricism in rap people have forgotten the lost art of innuendo...Everyone knew Rick James Was singin bout pack on Mary Jane..... It always been around but if you aren't skilled with the pen and your vocabulary is limited you can only say I pop pills so many ways...... I knew philly nagas been fukkin with xanis and percs since they was in dikkie work shirts and guess jeans with pencil pockets...... blame the decline in lyricism

We used to clown Flavor Flav when we found out he was a junkie but if he was to come out now this is all you would see on the coli

"Im about to pop this pill to Flav and zone out :ahh:"

"Flav is the perfect music to get high to:banderas:"

"Yall are :flabbynsick:. You just don't understand Flav's music"

:mjlol:
hiphop has done a great job of "normalizing" destructive and criminal behavior. Rap is gonna bring back crack soon enough. Its also feminizing our young black men. "I dont care if Young Thug wears dresses.....the beat bangs:ohlawd:"
