I'm aware of the differences between the two. But Nietzsche hated classical liberalism, and really, all egalitarianism, whether just in terms of basic individual rights or in terms of socialism. That much is a fact. He also hated conservatism and capitalism. Quoting him as if he was just talking about modern democrats is very inaccurate.

Y'all ever notice that most of these prevention programs have the opposite effect?

Depends on the program. Lots of drug and alcohol prevention programs are successful, for example, as are childhood obesity programs, prevention programs for juvenile offenders, etc. They just have to be done comprehensively, without crude individualistic assumptions.

Yes, but the progress he's talking about is individual rights (including property rights,) voting, etc. That's made clear by what was happening in Germany at the time (not anything like modern American liberal policies.) In other words, early liberal democracy, an umbrella that makes his criticism target everything from libertarianism to social-democrats. That's why he cites the "aristocratic commonwealths of Rome and Venice" as superior to Germany of the time in that very same passage. Society based on even the most minimal egalitarianism in the form of inviolable individual rights were the target. He believes that people shouldn't be guaranteed even that level of basic equality.

For more proof, from the same section, he writes:
"Equality" as a certain factual increase in similarity, which merely finds expression in the theory of "equal rights," is an essential feature of decline...All our political theories and constitutions -- and the "German Reich" is by no means an exception -- are consequences, necessary consequences, of decline"

A little bullying can do some good in my opinion. Part of growing up. Nothing wrong with getting clowned here and there. Makes you stand up for yourself, which is a valuable lesson to learn.

Some of these kids take it too far these days though with their bullying.

i need to see more about the methodology. there could be a TON of factors at play. i work for an anti-bullying org... lol @ anyone who is against people trying to solve this horrible problem in school.

a bigger question is WHY? why are there more episodes of bullying in these schools? how the fukk are they measuring it anyway?
