Mitch was better overall, better shooter, defender, better post game, didn't dribble with his head down. Yeah Mitch didn't get to the playoffs except once in his prime, but Clyde played on much better teams. Mitch had a rep of being the 2nd best 2G in the league behind the goat, Clyde was never in that discussion, except in regards to athleticism

I was huge Mitch Richmond fan and used to always talk about how underrated he was, but Clyde got to the cup like it was nothing and you can't fault him for having that type of athleticism...

I do agree that Mitch's overall game was smoother than Clyde's but Clyde was still better and that athleticism is a huge part of it...

And it crazy how Chris Mullin is in the HOF but Mitch and Tim aren't

ya'll are overrating the sht out of Clyde. If anything Clyde benefitted by playing on a small market team, so he was artificially hyped as the "anti-jordan", in an sense. If you check the stats, his prime was remarkably short. He was pretty much a 19-20 pt. per game scorer, after the 91-92 season for the rest of his career. People like him because hes quiet and a nice guy, but hes not anywhere near the level ya'll are ranking him at. He only had a handful of great seasons. Flash in the pan.

Drexler imo, was the 2nd best SG of his era.

If I had to compare a player in this era to him, I can't not one player is even close to him in his prime. I think Demar Derozan has a similar play style and some of his skills, but the kid has to really work on his shooting.

Drexler when he was on the Blazers had a very good squad and they were favorites in that 92 finals.

That being said no one remembers the 2nd best SG especially when the bulk of your career in Jordan's shadow.

funny because Derozan was the first name that jumped into my head

injuries are part of the game. People cant say he was the 2nd best SG of his era, and then when pressed fall back on the injury excuse for why his stats dont square with his cohorts. You can say that had he not be injured he could have possibly been at that status, but upon reflection he's definitely Richmond, Miller status.

Stevie Francis and Arenas looked like lock HOF'ers before their bodies failed them. Now they're considered also rans. Thats the way it is. :manny:

people are ranking him as the 2nd-3rd best shooting guard during the years he played. that's not overrating him, that's rating him accordingly.

and it's not ALL about scoring points when you talk about stats. He was still dropping 5-6 dimes a game and getting close to 7 rbs a game when he lost his athleticism. He was FAR from flash in the pan

Clyde doesn't get the props he deserves but anyone who knows the game knows that he was a very great player. I give him number 5 shooting guard status after Jordan Kobe Wade and West.

Well, he was a SG and the primary job description of that position is to score.

People are saying he was the 2nd best SG of his era, not a few specific seasons. Era covers a lot of ground...for instance you have people in this thread saying Clyde was "way better" than Mitch. His numbers dont reflect that at all. Clyde was overrated.

:whoa: @ people saying drexler & wade are better than iverson.

im noticing a pattern being formed on the slick. at this rate, reggie miler and ray allen will be ranked ahead of iverson in a few years.

.

Wade before he was even in his prime "2006" was better than Iverson in any season. :rudy:

Get out of here.

Im not defending a position that Richmond was way better than Clyde tho. Im saying they were comparable. Sure, Clyde had a couple of monster years that trump Mitch, but taking a comprehensive view of their respective careers, in no way can I say that Clyde was clear notch above.

I think this is a fair qualification. Compare Vince C and Clyde. Vince is basically viewed, as an underachieving slacker, while Clyde is favorably compared to Jordan. Clearly this is a product of the fact that Vince played with far more scrutiny during the internet, talk radio era, while Clyde played in virtual anonymity during the 80s in a small market, so his career benefits from that. I bet if you asked most basketball heads, they would say without hesitation that Clyde was "way better" than Vince.
