Yep. MANY people look at young girls as something to be bartered. All to have access to a man’s resources. This is where girls learn to have transactional relationships and literally see their bodies and pretty faces as tools to get things from men before their looks fall off. Yep; I’ve heard horrible stories and visible damage done to little girls’ bodies by the grown men their mothers sold them to. Things like that make me question this existence. As much as I’ve said about my own relationship with my mother in some of the other threads, I will never downplay the extent to which she ensured I was sheltered and safe up until that moment I was dropped off at college. I can still cry when I think about some of my homegirls crying on the playground about things that were happening to them at home.

i went to school in utah which is like..... the least poverty state. all the stuff people are giving as a reason for young girls to date older men wasn't really applicable. the kids had cars and money, the athletes were going d1, dads are involved, etc. so the were plenty of options in school for the "baddies".... plus half the kids are mormon lol.

Getting married at 30+ is a fairly recent phenomenon. Our great great grandparents where getting married at 14 and 15.
The other piece people are missing is back in the 80 and 90s hook up culture was taboo. You cant look at dating back then the same way we do today. The community was closer knit due to no social media so your reputation followed you and was more important. There was no tinder or easy way for quick hookups. Nobody had cell phones like that. You call somebody's house landline in the 80 and early 90's anybody in the family could pick up. So many of the times these older guys actually had the blessing of the parents to an extent cause if you dated a girl you needed to speak with her father. It wasnt something really hidden like that. Dating younger women was never really seen as a big deal until recently with the feminist and women empowerment push.
