Mike the Executioner
What went on up there? Poppers and weird sex!
Being 100% honest, I played the shyt out of this in 2013-2014. I was genuinely impressed by it because at the time, I had never heard anything like it. I was like when he went into the "supersonic speed" portion.
Years later, after going through Eminem’s discography and actually listening to the album "Rap God" came from, I'll say this: It's still a dope song. It was in my head the other day. But it was one of those songs that only works once. MMLP 2 was full of songs like this, a lot of extra-long freestyles that were just meant to showcase how good Eminem is technically. What happened was "Rap God" got a great reception and Eminem thought that he should do it all the time. Just like with Recovery. If it worked the first time, why not keep doing it? And he's continued doing it........for eight years now.
For what it's worth, he took a six-minute freestyle with a minimal hook, just bars on top of bars, and made it a single and a Billboard hit. So hip hop won that day.
