It didn't.

Eminem had better songs and I wasn't really impressed, but I know people who thought it was a clinic in lyricism. Hard to be impressed by what Eminem did on this song when Nas had dropped Stillmatic a decade and change earlier. With Eminem, I felt like "The Way I Am" was the peak of his powers. It's other MC's I felt the same way about.
