You're right. I'm going senile. But that little time frame post reasonable doubt and pre hard knock life is when Jay really locked in. He was actually my favorite mc in the world at that time. It was brief but he was.


The interesting thing to him eventually alienating me as a fan was a direct result of him adopting the ruff Ryder/DMX sound on vol. 2.


So X gets props for sure.

im in the Midwest...but like some said DMx was above jay z at a time,because around this region people was pac fans and didnt like jay z..and plus before that album X was on alot of people songs and people thought he was the next pac because he was raw.

And last dmx shytted on jay z on this song..thats why i think he didnt put this version out but that remix with beans and bleek.

I mean, Jay was like out of this world on fire in NYC those years. X was too I suppose but perhaps I'm viewing things through my "purist" tinted shades. Jay just was more of a MC to me where X was a performer/anomaly.


I think their career trajectories properly frame things.


And I find Fozzy bear Hov totally embarrassing.

jay was never more of an emcee than x.

x was actualized as a real dope next level emcee in the late eighties.

when jay was selling out with jaz on some freshprince shyt.

plus x also had a grasp of his own skillset way before jay did.

like almost six years before jay did.

jay had to ramp up skills from bigl/sauce/jaz.
x was winning unsigned hype before his twelve inches years before this.

plus was actualized with a real original in style skillset in 95 on mc g's shyt.

while jay struggled on original flavor, bdk and mc g shyt every other year from 93 to 95.
