was marketed as a pac clone and i did not buy it.

still never owned it and will not download it either.

never liked the acidwash banned on purpose video.
to fool the public that pac had returned.

i did not buy into dmx but a few singles and grand champion, my brother had lying around in the car.
that one wack summer when there wasn't shyt out but that and triple6 bin laden bags.

never was a fan like that. i always liked his interviews.
just like i liked pac's commentary in interviews.

other than that, he never made my personal listening, or purchases, ever.

I know. That's why I'm trying to be respectful and explanatory. I also rarely take anyone under the age of early 30's perspective on the game too seriously.

But a ton of people my age & older gobbled this album up. of course the game had long gone sour and was full of robots only concerned with "exclusives".

So I guess if a dudes born after 82 your giving them the :stopitslime: face.

Jay was never seen as underneath DMX.

jay never drew on dmx's level even at his height.

dmx always was the bigger everything over jay.
in the clubs to anywhere,...
that is why dmx dissed jay and la reid.
for allowing dmx's draw to be sacrificed and destroyed for jay's meglomania, as ceo.

dmx was like that slipper wearing fakkit!!

that, is why i grew to like dmx.
all because he was always real.
i also,..like his story of how his wife first saw/encountered/met him, too.

i found that cool.
over the years i grew to like him as a personality.

Jay-Z's run JUST began on that level and I know, because too family friends had been working at Roc-A-Fella since the beginning (They were even on Jay-Z's Driven episode on VH1), and they were telling us about shyt changing around 1998. Jay really began his run in 1998, more than cementing it.

And remember, I was 15 at the time, so was most of the people I hung out with.

I wouldn't say that DMX was bigger than Jay, per se, but in his prime his sun shined brighter at times, but in the late 90's Jay was definitely setting up the stage for him to make a run for the King of NY. I just think dudes were attracted to his hyped up flow and considerable mic presence. Also keep in mind Money, Cash, Hoes set the stage and worked as a bridge for DMX for cross over into the fall and winter and the drop of FOMF.

Jays groundswell really began when the streets is watching tape came out....then vol. 1 dropped and wasn't what it was supposed to be but still had him primed. Then hard knock life happened and the rest is history.

Maybe DMX was a bigger national thing. I personally found him cartoonish. Especially by albums 2,3 and so on.

dmx was stil larger drawing.

plus busta's release in seven to eight month schedule was used by dmx.

then later jay used the formula and still did not do what dmx did
z

jay just had the movie/tour.
which dmx was the actual drawing headliner for.

plus a clothing company that produced a larger stream of revenue as clothing companies do.

yet and still dmx was the higher draw.

dmx just did not have the larger stream of revenue of a clothing line.

to pr or always look or have a representation of his draw like rocawear and clothing, was for jay.
yet and still dmx was a higher draw.

he was from 1998 to about early 1999.

I mean, Jay was like out of this world on fire in NYC those years. X was too I suppose but perhaps I'm viewing things through my "purist" tinted shades. Jay just was more of a MC to me where X was a performer/anomaly.

I think their career trajectories properly frame things.

And I find Fozzy bear Hov totally embarrassing.
