When did you realize that music wouldn't be your career & just a passion/hobby?

Where it's at breh where the sounds? :youngsabo:

I be trying to keep the positive voices in my head on 100 and the negatives on 0 but the nikkas the young crowd buzz for discourage a breh like I got nothing to offer these nikkas.

I'ma just make this next tape for me breh. No radio reaching, no club tracks unless it's a mock record/hidden message, the couple of girl tracks will be serious not no fluffy "you so fine" shyt. I'm part of a clique anyway so I can let them do what's hot.

How deep in the game did you get?
i just met a lot of people. i started getting hangers-on and ended up in a lot of places i wasnt feeling around a lot of desperate people. this is early 90's so i saw a few of my peers get really famous today. and i always sound gassed because i still consider myself a part of the movement

I went thru that phase of worrying about if people would like what I do, and feeling discouraged because I felt different than what was hitting on radio.

But really in the end, that's not going to stop your ideas if you feel strongly about yourself. In this era it's pretty easy to set up a situation to record yourself with a laptop, as long as you have a job to support yourself you can continue to explore your ideas.

Just keep making your stuff as you please and take advantage of the technology available

My tracks always used be WAY too loud and distorted.
I always wanted my drums to be as loud as possible but i really overkilled it.
I heard others on soundcloud who did it but they tracks where actually distorted to.

But i kinda found out that certain drum-sounds just shouldn't be as loud as others. That's why a lot of drums are recorded louder or softer than others. I think.

Death is not the end, the loss of conviction is.

Not everyone has to be Kanye in popularity to make some good profit from music, there's definitely room for everyone man. My man Lil B found a way, you can too. Currensy kept at it, he's got a huge underground following. This is coming from someone going through the same thing brother, it's almost as if I'm encouraging myself as well by typing this out to you...

If it's truly your passion, make your money doing whatever work you're already doing and use your free time to make your passions profitable as well my friend. Good luck.
Yeah I've accepted Kanye/Jay/Drake/Cole popularity ain't gonna happen. Not with my content/life. I'ma just do me. And try to stop fretting over my age/how long I be rapping already. I hope can make waves with your shyt too breh.
if it's really your dream, you just gotta keep getting better at your craft, learn how to get your shyt out there so people can hear it, network, etc. you might never be mikewillmadeit or whoever...being a big-name producer probably won't be where you end up but you can find a lane. it definitely might not be what you were looking for when you started out though. i know a guy who's production i loved but never went anywhere with it - he write jingles for a living now, i know a guy who just does little interludes for tv and shyt, i know plenty of guys who were in bands trying to be rock stars and shyt and now are basically professional session players...whatever. it's not what any of those guys really set out to be when they were young and hoping to blow up but hey, music is still their job. music is what pays the bills.

and imo, until it pays the bills, whatever "it" is, it's a hobby. so until you can support yourself, have a paying job and a plan b.
I'm an MC not a producer breh (or I don't really consider myself one despite making beats in the past) but this applies. Appreciate it breh.
The problem is that a lot of people think they will get discovered from their bedroom.

Making it in music is as much politics and good business as it is talent.

i think the main factor in making it is having a solid team around you. Not only for what they can do for you but to also to keep you focused and head check. A lot of artists get way too into their heads, become delusional about their talent, and get frustrated when things don't go their way.

I don't make music but I do a lot of photography/creative direction for the labels so I got the chance to see how things work up close.

Anyways I say never give up, you're one retweet away from fame.
Yeah I'm at the point where I'm thinking either people gassed me and I was never good enough or I am but just too left...as far as delusions/belief in my talent.

I'm in a team, it's really fellow artists but we push each other, mix our own shyt, shoot our own vids/pics etc. But I appreciate it I'ma keep believing the retweet will come when it's time.

Those are my first two project, I was 17 and 18. The first one I did in my school's computer room, no mic, just rapping to a Mac screen :pachaha: made all the beats except 3-5. The second was a birthday gift to myself and I almost didn't put out because of how personal I felt it was, friends would've had to ask me for it but I was convinced otherwise. I rushed it and can tell.

DatPiff Mobile that was the last one I did, I was 19 when I wrote most of it, finished it at 20, didn't get to drop it till I was 21. There's no song structure here I took a No Ceilings route rapping for rapping. Tape 4 would have much more content and structure in common with 1 and 2.

If you're not tryna hear me for an extended sitting lol these are loose tracks Doc Pro
You are actually nice breh. Well for me i came in making music more as a hobby i already knew how the music industry works since ive been a dj for long time at first. At this point of my life its just the love i have for hip hop thats why i still do it.

Im still getting better at my craft, but in the last few weeks it dawned on me that nothing is guaranteed. There's madddddddd talent out there. Plus, I still can't put out a decent mix to save my life. Not to mention the fact that I make old school hip hop in 2016.

Im still with it though. Been up in the lab heavy as of late. But, Im starting to explore other avenues, and art forms.

Once I realized that music success isn't guaranteed, I felt like a huge burden was lifted off my shoulders :blessed:

I want to do a duology of mixtapes but between the resources not being there and a lack of support, fukk that. After this tape with my cousin (if THAT even gets off the ground) I'm writing sci-if stories and taking acting classes.

This music shyt ain't bout nothing.

Breh you're never too old to make music and make money doing so. Some of the highest paid producers in the game are in their 30s 40s even 50s

Maybe being a rapper would be harder as you get older. But never give up on a dream. 2 chains popped at like 36 breh. He's a millionaire now. Grind hard doing your day job and spend all your free time pursuing you're dream.

Focus on your craft.

Failure of pursuing your dreams is a zero risk venture. If you can't fail doing it it's not worth doing.

The biggest risk you can take on impacting your life negatively is being complacent and not willing to pursue what you know makes you happy. Do your thing breh. If you don't want it to be a hobby then keep pushing. You'll get there.

When I left NY for the last time and moved to the DMV. shyt's been up and down since 2001 I knew I didn't have the capital or attitude to make a career out of "rapping"...especially now.
I didn't take production seriously then...now, I've switched lanes and I think production can be more lucrative. I just have to work on my mixing.
