When did running to a spot and standing still( A charge) start getting promoted as good D in BBall?

:jbhmm:

I feel like Battier at Duke is when I first saw the announcers and media applauding someone for taking a charges where you run under the go and become a statue?

My question is has this always been a strategy in basketball or is it relatively new and how can we stop it?

Probably ever since it resulted in a turnover?

this is a pretty naive and simplistic interpretation of drawing a charge

What Im describing should never be rewarded.

A charge should be actively playing Defense and Offensive players bullies his way in your space.

A defender running under the basket and becoming a statue should not be called defense.

When did a headfake and jumping forward into the defender become a defensive foul?

Because I see that shyt happen every night.

:coffee:
I know right,

Also when did the NBA decide that they would let the refs just arbitrarily call travel? The Refs can dictate the game by calling Traveling. Either call traveling or don't.

I don't necessarily disagree with you. They should get rid of those cheap type of 'slip in' charges. Almost seems like a dangerous play too

Because the defender isn't actively defending anything. They are just running to a spot on the floor and standing still before the O player gets there (most of time its the same time the offensive player gets there)

Its part of the reason College Basketball is so terrible because every drive to the lane is a charge.

Im asking when did this start? Because I don't remember this being a thing in the 90s (even though I was too young to really process what I was watching)

Im not confusing anything. You have been programmed to think this is good D because its called that way. When in reality its the opposite of playing good defense in basketball is( forcing the offense into tough shots)
How is it not smart D if the refs will call it? Again if the defender has clear position, why shouldn't he get the call. You promoting Players pulling a bron bully ball now

Edit:I see u just responded

I'd prob say it started Early 2000's when more euro players came over
